November 24, 2021 - Texas homeowners may postpone paying the currently delinquent property taxes due on the appreciating value of their homes by taking advantage of a payment option called “residence homestead tax deferral” and filing a tax deferral affidavit at the Shelby County Appraisal District.
November 1, 2021 - The Shelby County Appraisal District office will close at lunchtime from 12 noon to 1pm every day this week of November 1 – November 5, 2021. This is only temporary because of a shortage of staff out for training this week. We apologize for the inconvenience.
August 9, 2021 - Property owners were mailed a postcard that explains how to get information on the estimated taxes. By going to the webpage below, taxpayers will be able to view proposed actions to be taken by each local taxing unit concerning the 2021 taxes as well as view meeting dates and times.

July 20, 2021 - The Shelby County Appraisal District office will be closed all day Tuesday, July 20th. The employees will be attending a Legislative Update class in Lufkin.
May 10, 2021 - The Shelby County Appraisal District will mail appraisal notices on May 17th. Your city, county, school district and other local taxing units will use the appraisal district’s value to set your 2021 property tax rates.
Under Texas law, county appraisal districts are required to notify property owners about changes in their property’s value. The notice contains important information about the property’s location, its ownership and property tax exemptions that have been applied to the property.
April 5, 2021 - If you own tangible personal property that is used to produce income, then a rendition must be filed with the Shelby County Appraisal District by April 15th. Property owners who need more time to file their renditions may file a written request with the chief appraiser on or before April 15th to receive an automatic extension to May 15th or the next business day. The chief appraiser may also grant an additional 15 days after the postponed deadline, if necessary.
January 21, 2021 - Property tax information is available to assist taxpayers. This property tax information covers a wide range of topics, such as taxpayer remedies, exemptions, appraisals and is of value to select groups, such as disabled veterans and persons who are 65 years of age or older.
