June 17, 2025 – Lila Rafferty, a 5th-grade student at Joaquin Elementary School has earned a position on the Louisiana state/provincial National Junior High rodeo team and will be traveling with fellow teammates to Des Moines, IA June 22nd thru June 28th to compete at the 20th annual National Junior High Finals Rodeo (NJHFR) in barrel Racing competition.
June 17, 2025 – Alaina Dean, an 8th-grade student at Joaquin Junior High School has earned a position on the Texas state/provincial National Junior High rodeo team and will be traveling with fellow teammates to Des Moines, IA June 22nd thru June 28th to compete at the 20th annual National Junior High Finals Rodeo (NJHFR) in girls goat tying and girls breakaway roping competitions.
June 13, 2023 - Jacob Griffin, of Joaquin, Texas, is headed to the 2023 National Junior High Finals Rodeo in Perry, Georgia on June 18-24th. Performances are daily from 9am until 7pm.

September 1, 2016 - The DePriest family selected Joe Hicks as this year's recipient of the Cole DePriest Award. Joe exhibits excellent sportsmanship and always supports and encourages his fellow contestants.
August 31, 2016 - The Shelby County Sheriff's Posse recently held its final playday of the season. During the awards, LeAnn Rafferty presented Cambree Bush with a beautiful, custom belt buckle commemorating the Billie Jean Kay Award.
June 24, 2016 - The Panola County Republican Women will host is fundraiser this Saturday, June 25. Rep. Louie Gohmert will be the keynote speaker. Doors open at 5. Tickets are $35 at the door. Musical Entertainment will be by Mark Harris and Rodney Wotten. The silent auction will start at 5 pm, dinner will start at 6pm and at 7pm the live auction will begin. Please join us at the Carthage Civic Center (1702 S Adams Street) for a great time.
