April 10, 2024 - (Click here for the Application) - This year the Shelby Soil and Water Conservation District will be awarding a $1,000 scholarship. The scholarship recipient will receive $500 for the fall 2024 semester and another $500 for the spring 2025 semester. The Shelby SWCD Scholarship is open to college students who are working toward a degree in the natural resources or agricultural field. We will be looking at individuals who meet the following qualifications:

Whereas, healthy, fertile soil and clean water is the lifeblood of nutrition and sustenance throughout the world, and soil conservation is a benefit to everyone; and,
Whereas, effective conservation practices ensure soil, water, animals, plants, and air can provide a rich standard of living; and,
July 30, 2019 Washington – USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the University of California at Davis Soil Resource Laboratory announced the release of the iOS and Android SoilWeb app, version 2.0. The app now has a cleaner and more modern interface with GPS-location-based links to access detailed digital soil survey data (SSURGO) published by the NRCS for most of the United States.
October 22, 2018 Temple, Texas – Now is the time for agricultural producers to sign up for FY19 financial assistance to implement conservation practices on their land through the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service’s (NRCS) Environmental Quality Incentives Program or EQIP.
EQIP financial assistance for this signup is available through specific program and landscape initiatives. Sign up is currently underway. The completed and submitted application deadline is November 16, 2018.
July 25, 2018 - The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Texas and their local Soil and Water Conservation Districts cordially invite the public to attend their FY19 Local Working Group (LWG) meetings.
The purpose of this annual LWG meeting is to set local conservation priorities and bring conservation stakeholders together to discuss conservation topics and issues relevant to helping their farmers and ranchers better conserve on-farm natural resources.
August 25, 2017 - Due to the threat of bad weather from Hurricane Harvey, the Local Working Group in Shelby County is cancelling the Conservation Planning Meeting and meal scheduled for August 29, 2017 at the Center High School cafeteria.
