Forest Legacy Grants Acquire 23,000 Acres to Conserve Southern Forests

March 26, 2021 — The Southern Region of the U.S. Forest Service Forest Legacy Program acquired 23,327 acres in 2020, utilizing nearly $23 million in the form of competitive grants for conservation easements and fee simple purchases. Through this program, Texas A&M Forest Service acquired Fox Hunters Hill, a $1.6 million conservation easement consisting of over 2,387 acres of sustainably managed forestland adjacent to the Sabine National Forest.

Texas A&M Forest Service launches Forest Stewardship Dashboard

March 24, 2021 - How valuable is it to actively manage your forestland? Landowners can now explore the added financial and environmental benefits of land management through the Texas A&M Forest Service Forest Stewardship Dashboard.

The new website highlights both the values and stories of the state agency’s Forest Stewardship Program. The program helps landowners achieve their property goals, increase their profits, sustain environmental functions and improve the overall health of their land by providing professional assistance tailored to individual needs.
 

Grants Available to Landowners in East Texas to Help Restore Longleaf Pine Forests

March 16, 2021 - Texas A&M Forest Service and the Texas Longleaf Pine Implementation Team have announced available funding for private landowners interested in restoring and enhancing longleaf pine ecosystems on their property. Grants have been made available by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) and International Paper (NYSE: IP) through the Forestland Stewards Initiative. Funding was granted to help conserve and restore this iconic and important American landscape.

Texas A&M Forest Service, Texas Children in Nature Network and Texan by Nature launch Nature Challenge

March 15, 2021 - The Nature Challenge website launched today, connecting Texans with fun, creative ways to explore the outdoors, learn new skills and get involved in their community. This statewide tool is the result of a shared vision between Texas Children in Nature Network, Texan by Nature and Texas A&M Forest Service.

The Nature Challenge desktop website encourages Texans to explore nature near and far by completing challenges and earning digital badges, allowing users to track their progress in a Challenge Progress Report.

December 3, 2020 - Christmas trees have been embedded in western holiday culture for hundreds of years, but it was only within the past several decades that artificial Christmas trees entered into the fold. August 20, 2020 - Dry air will persist over the state through the weekend, contributing to increased rates of drying in vegetation. Wildfire activity and fuel dryness is continuing to expand north and east into higher population centers.
