New State Budget Helps RRC Work to Protect Texans and the Environment

June 21, 2023 - The state budget bill passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor enhances the Railroad Commission’s work in regulating the oil and gas industry and serving Texans.

The bill provides the agency with approximately $481 million for the next two fiscal years.

The RRC regulates the major components of the state’s energy industry including oil and gas; surface mining of coal and uranium; the alternative fuels of LNG, CNG, and LPG; intrastate pipelines and natural gas utilities.

Texas State Parks and 5 Texas Minor League Teams Create Ultimate ‘Park’ Experience

May 3, 2023 - Take me out to the park! Texas State Parks and Minor League Baseball teams around the state are teaming up to bring the ultimate day/night doubleheader opportunity for visitors to spend a day at a state park and a night at the ballpark.

Five minor league teams will offer a variety of experiences for game attendees, including game day perks and a chance to talk to park rangers about nearby state parks and the outdoor experiences there.

Annual Tax-Free Weekend for School Shopping Starts August 5

August 5, 2022 - The Comptroller encourages all taxpayers to support Texas businesses while saving money on tax-free purchases of most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks (sold for less than $100) during the annual Tax-Free weekend. Qualifying items can be purchased tax free from a Texas store or from an online or catalog seller doing business in Texas.

Sales Tax Holiday Aug 11-13

August 10, 2017 - This year’s Sales Tax Holiday is August 11 - 13. As in previous years, the law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced less than $100 from sales and use taxes, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend.

Subject to the criteria explained below, all sales of qualifying items made during the holiday period qualify for the exemption, including items sold online, or by telephone or mail. Shoppers can use layaway plans to take advantage of the sales tax holiday.
