TEA, ATPE Warn of Email Phishing Scam

September 14, 2017 Austin – The Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE) have been advised of a current phishing email directed at teachers and school systems across the state.

The email, which bears the ATPE logo and an outdated TEA logo, comes from a non-TEA email address and appears to target teachers with the following message:

Greg Abbott’s 58-county disaster declaration for Hurricane Harvey can submit Missed School Day Waivers for any scheduled instructional days missed this week due to recent adverse weather conditions.

Commissioner Morath Announced Public Comment Period for ESSA State Plan to Begin July 31

July 25, 2017 Austin – Commissioner of Education Mike Morath announced today that a public comment period for the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) consolidated state plan will begin Monday, July 31. The ESSA consolidated state plan is scheduled to be submitted by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to the U.S. Department of Education later this year.

Majority of Texas Students Pass STAAR® End-of-Course Exams

July 12, 2017 Austin – A majority of Texas students were successful in completing the five State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) end-of-course exams, according to statewide results released July 7, 2017 by the Texas Education Agency. The results reflect passing rates for the spring 2017 administration of STAAR.

In statewide results for the 2016–2017 school year for all testers, Texas students posted the highest statewide passing rates – above 90 percent – in U.S. History. Results for all students tested for 2016-2017 are as follows:

TEA Launches New Professional Development Pilot

May 15, 2017 Austin, TX – Commissioner of Education Mike Morath announced today that the Texas Education Agency (TEA) has launched a pilot project for six learning programs targeted at educators within select districts across the state. The pilot is part of a broader initiative in the agency’s shift towards impact-focused training and will help to form the future of professional development in Texas.

New Resources Supporting Educational Needs of Students in Foster Care Now Available

April 28, 2017 Austin – Commissioner of Education Mike Morath announced today that the Texas Education Agency, Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, and Supreme Court of Texas Children’s Commission have collaborated to develop a new guide entitled Information Sharing Between Child Welfare and Schools: Maintaining Privacy and Promoting Educational Success.
