VLB Votes to Provide Services to Texas Military Forces Members Killed in the Line of Duty

October 19, 2023 —Today, Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman and Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham M.D., along with fellow board members Judson Scott and James Rothfelder, voted to approve a policy that will provide Texas State Veterans Cemetery services to Texas Military Forces killed in the line of duty, free of charge.

World War II Veteran Receives Over 7,200 Cards on 100th Birthday

October 6, 2023 — Today, Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman and Texas Land Commissioner Dr. Dawn Buckingham M.D., is honored to update Texans on U.S. Army Veteran and Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home resident Ethelyn Szad Bell's request to receive 100 cards for her 100th birthday on October 4th. In a stunning show of support for this incredible Texas Veteran, Mrs. Bell received over 7,200 cards from across our state and nation.

September 12, 2023 — Today, Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham challenged the Bonham community and the State of Texas to show their support for U.S. Army Veteran and Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home resident Ethelyn Szad Bell on her 100th birthday. Mrs. Bell's centennial celebration will be on October 4th and she has requested to receive 100 cards for this wonderful milestone.

22 Derelict Vessels set for Removal from Texas Waters

September 6, 2023 - Today, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. is pleased to announce that the Texas General Land Office Oil Spill division will partner with the Gulf of Mexico Alliance (GOMA) to remove 22 derelict vessels from Texas coastal waters.  More than $10 million in funding awarded to GOMA will help support healthy marine and coastal environments by removing abandoned or derelict vessels across the Gulf coast.

General Land Office, City of San Antonio, Alamo Trust Reach Agreement

August 3, 2023  - Today, the General Land Office (GLO), the City of San Antonio (City), and Alamo Trust, Inc. (ATI) are delighted to announce the successful mediation and agreement with the owner of Moses Rose’s Hideout to purchase the building located at 516 E. Houston St. This mutual agreement ends the eminent domain litigation and is a landmark step towards the creation of the future Alamo Visitor Center and Museum.

Commissioner Buckingham Applauds Texas Legislature's $400 Million in Funding for the Alamo Plan

June 23, 2023 — Today, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. is proud to celebrate the passage of a $400 million funding allocation for the historic Alamo Plan, which was included in the state's budget Governor Greg Abbott signed on Sunday. The Alamo Plan funding will go to several construction projects including the Alamo Visitor Center and Museum, Alamo Plaza, Alamo church, and Cenotaph.

June 14, 2023 – In observance of National Pet Preparedness Month, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D., is encouraging Texans to include pets and livestock in their emergency plans and build a separate emergency kit for their animals. Hurricane season began June 1, and the Texas General Land Office (GLO) continues to remind coastal and inland Texans to know their risk, purchase flood insurance, protect their home, safeguard documents, and prepare emergency supplies and an evacuation route.

Texas GLO Awards More than $135 million in Flood Mitigation Grants; Tenaha Listed Among Mitigation Funding

Twenty-one repeatedly flooded communities to receive historic mitigation funding

March 11, 2021 — Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the Texas General Land Office (GLO) approved $135,462,438 in flood mitigation projects to 21 grantees in the second round of grant funding for the GLO’s $2.3 billion regional mitigation competitions.
