August 18, 2025 – Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will launch a new series of paddling trails at Toledo Bend Reservoir in East Texas, recently designated the official Bass Fishing Capital of Texas.
The Lost Frontier Reach, Mid Lake Run, Palo Gaucho and Six Mile Paddling trails increase the number of trails at Toledo Bend to five. They add 30 more miles of paddling opportunities and join a lineup of more than 80 paddling trails throughout the state of Texas.
July 18, 2025 - Hunters now have new opportunities and scenery to experience this fall through Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) drawn hunt permits program.
Through this program, hunters are issued permits for drawn hunts on both public and private lands throughout Texas. Applications are now being accepted for a shot at nearly 9,600 permits in more than 60 high-quality hunt categories.
June 5, 2025 - The annual Texas tradition of Free Fishing Day is back this Saturday, June 7, 2025, at public waterways across the state. Each year on the first Saturday in June, Texans and out-of-state visitors can fish on any public waterway in the state without a fishing license.

March 5, 2025 - Hunters can expect to see an abundance of two-year-old gobblers and jakes setting the stage for an increase in male harvest in 2025.
Most of Texas experienced a bump in production and recruitment in 2023 and 2024, meaning hunters can expect a temporary spillover of birds into landscapes they are not always found. Gobblers are expected to spread out in search of hens, hens in search of nesting cover and young birds moving across the landscape looking for new areas to occupy.
March 4, 2025 - O.H. Ivie increased its Legacy Class largemouth bass total to three on Thursday as the 2025 Toyota ShareLunker collection season heads into its final month. O.H. Ivie launched the year on Jan. 2 with its initial Legacy Class Lunker of 2025 followed by its second on Feb. 15.
February 27, 2025 - Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is taking public comment until March 26 on changes to digital licensing and tagging requirements.
The proposed amendments would expand digital license and tag options to all recreational hunting, fishing, combo license and tag types.
TPWD introduced digital licensing and tagging in 2022 for harvested deer, turkey and oversized red drum.
