National Invasive Species Awareness Week Feb. 24-28

February 24, 2025 - National Invasive Species Awareness Week Feb. 24-28, Supports Initiatives to Prevent Harmful, Non-Native Plants and Wildlife. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) encourages Texans to take steps to prevent the introduction and spread of harmful invasive species that negatively impact the state’s natural resources and economy. Angler Catches Same ShareLunker Fish Twice in Two Years

February 24, 2025 - Nearly two years to the day after reeling in ShareLunker 641 from Lake Alan Henry, angler Ross Gomez caught a 14.78-pound bass only to discover it was the same fish.

Gomez, of Post, caught the fish in the same location and again entered it into the Toyota ShareLunker program, this time as ShareLunker 674. He first caught the fish, then recorded as ShareLunker 641, on Feb. 10, 2023.

Buzz Into Action: Texas Pollinator BioBlitz Starts Friday, Oct. 11

October 3, 2024 - Texans are invited to see and document pollinators buzzing into action Oct. 11-27, 2024 during the Texas Pollinator BioBlitz. This annual event celebrates the bees, wasps, butterflies, moths, beetles, flies, hummingbirds, nectar-feeding bats and other animals that serve as pollinators across Texas.

Many pollinator species have seen declines in their population, which could spell trouble. These important insects, birds and mammals are key to sustaining native plant species, human food crops and even crops for livestock.
