16th Annual Texas-National Archery Championship For Students

March 22, 2022 – In the 16th year offering a state tournament opportunity for Texas schools participating in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP®), a record 3,100 students from 148 schools will meet March 22-23 at the Bell County Expo Center in Belton. Students will have a chance to contend for awards and qualify for the NASP® National Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky.

Areas with Historically Strong Turkey Populations Sets the Table for Hunter Success this Spring

March 15, 2022 – Areas in Texas that have historically had huntable populations of wild turkeys will have solid numbers again this spring hunting season. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) biologists say hunters will have the most luck in the Cross Timbers, the Edwards Plateau and South Texas regions.

TPWD Celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Texas Hunter Education

March 8, 2022 – This week, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hunter Education. The first course in Texas was held on Feb. 28, 1972. Since then, over 1.5 million students have completed Texas Hunter Education throughout the state.

March 7, 2022 – Anglers landed five Lunkers in five days, in the process recording two new lake records and two Top-30 fish – including the seventh largest in Texas history – to close out an active February in the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD)’s 2022 Toyota ShareLunker season.

CO-OP Program Awards More Than $2 Million in Grants to Texas Communities

March 2, 2022 - Communities in Texas will have more opportunities to explore their natural surroundings thanks to grants awarded through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Community Outdoor Outreach Program (CO-OP). These 41 grant partnerships, totaling $2,048,678, will support community-based conservation and outdoor recreation activities throughout the state and build on $22 million already awarded by TPWD over the past 25 years.

TPWD - National Invasive Species Awareness Week - Feb. 28 – Mar. 4

February 28, 2022 – During National Invasive Species Awareness Week (NISAW), Feb. 28 – March 4 this year, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) asks Texans to help slow the spread of invasive species affecting our state’s natural resources and economy. The Office of the Governor has recognized NISAW with an official proclamation.

New Report Shows Hunting Accidents in Texas are at a Record Low

February 15, 2022 - Hunting-related accidents in Texas are at an all-time low since Hunter Education became mandatory in 1988, according to the 2021 Texas Hunting Accident Report released by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD).

Of more than 49,000 certifications in 2021, Texas experienced only one fatality and 11 accidents statewide, according to the report.

Texas Game Warden Memorial is Moving to New Home

After nine years of legislative hurdles, the State Preservation Board approved the memorial’s move to the Texas State Capitol

December 22, 2021 - Since 2012, the Game Warden Peace Officer’s Association has been working to relocate the memorial from the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens to the grounds of the Texas State Capitol. The life-size bronze figure of a Texas Game Warden stands to honor the wardens that lost their lives in the line of duty and serves as a reminder of the enduring legacy of the Texas Game Wardens.
