September 21, 2022 – A pre-construction meeting was held in the Lufkin District Regional Conference room Tuesday, signaling the start of a major construction project in Polk County.
Engineers, city representatives, consultants, utility, general contractors, environmental and safety professionals were in attendance to discuss the Corrigan Relief Route that will be constructed on the west side of Corrigan.
September 10, 2022 - Alert: US 59 north of FM 1645 in Shelby County is closed due to a crash involving two 18-wheelers. The crash resulted in a fire and a Haz Mat spill. Traffic is being diverted in Tenaha and Timpson at this time. Motorists should stay alert and obey all traffic control.
Public invited to comment on transportation projects
July 8, 2022 – TxDOT is seeking public input on the draft 2023 Unified Transportation Program (UTP), the state’s 10-year transportation plan. The UTP guides the development of projects around Texas to improve safety, address congestion and connectivity, and preserve roadways for Texas drivers. In addition to highway projects, the UTP addresses public transportation, maritime, aviation, rail, freight and international trade, and bicycle and pedestrian connectivity.
August 2, 2022 – School zone flashers are being activated this week throughout the nine-county Lufkin District in preparation for a new school year. TxDOT wants to remind the public of the law regarding driving through a school zone and near school buses and offer safety tips for students.
May 31, 2022 – Crews will set barricades this week in various locations throughout the Lufkin District as sealcoating operations are expected to begin by June 2, weather permitting.

May 27, 2022 – Transportation Commissioners met Thursday in Austin and approved more than $1.1 billion in new construction projects statewide, with more than $179.1 million approved for the nine-county Lufkin District.
May 21, 2022 – Motorists will experience a two-lane traffic pattern for up to eight months on a construction project on US 59, north of Corrigan, in Polk County.
Beginning Monday, May 23, traffic on US 59 from just north of Piney Creek to just north of Old Highway 35, southbound traffic will be detoured into the northbound inside lane during daytime operations. This traffic pattern will continue up to four months during daytime work hours.
