June 1, 2015 - The lowly broom has been around our civilization for centuries. It is said that Benjamin Franklin introduced broomcorn to the United States in 1725. He is said to have picked a single broomcorn seed of a Philadelphia lady, planted it and grew the first broom corn in the United States.
June 1, 2015 - With all this rain, experts are anticipating a significant increase in the state’s mosquito population. Even as this is being written, mosquito populations are booming throughout the state and will likely not go away anytime soon after all our rains and flooding.
With the mosquitoes, health departments are monitoring closely an increase in mosquito vectored disease. And humans are not the only ones to suffer from mosquito-borne diseases, AgriLife Extension experts noted.
June 1, 2015 - I just returned from agricultural tour to California. It was wonderful to see the diversity of agricultural commodities that they had to offer. It was odd was that while I was out west visiting this state that was in their fourth year of drought, Angelina County was flooding.

May 29, 2015 - Elijah Morris was born to Mary Rayburn Morris and William Morris, Sr. of Burk County, North Carolina in 1791. Elijah grew up in a family of eight children. He married Nancy Allen on March 16, 1811.
Elijah, Nancy and their two children moved to Alabama in 1815. Four more children were born in Alabama. Nancy died sometime before the 1830 census was taken.

May 22, 2015 (Lufkin) – Shannon Ramos, P.E., has recently been named as Nacogdoches Area Engineer for the Lufkin District. In her new role, Shannon will head the Nacogdoches Area Office which oversees all construction and maintenance activities in Nacogdoches, Sabine, Shelby, and San Augustine counties.
Shannon began her career with TxDOT in January 2003 for the Lufkin District’s Consultant Management Section after her December 2002 graduation from Texas A&M University.
