CR 4356 Slated for Day Construction; Road Closure Set

March 30, 2026 - Shelby County Commissioner Tom Bellmyer advises a road closure for County Road 4356 at US Hwy 96 for a culvert replacement starting Tuesday morning, March 31, 2026 at 8am.

The project is expected to be completed same day by 4pm.

Cities, Schools Election Schedule; April 2nd Last Day to Register to Vote

March 30, 2026 - The May Uniform Election Day for local non-county political subdivisions such as cities and schools is Saturday, May 2, 2026.

The entities hosting an election May 2nd are: City of Tenaha, City of Timpson, Shelbyville ISD, and Timpson ISD.

March 28, 2026 - An ambulance was involved in a two-vehicle crash Thursday, March 26, 2026, at around 4pm in the Mt. Herman Community.

Commissioners, Prosecutors Discuss Establishment of Bond Board

March 27, 2026 - The Shelby County Commissioners participated in a lengthy discussion with local prosecutors over the potential establishment of a bond board in Shelby County during their March 18, 2026, meeting.

John Price, Shelby County Attorney, presented the commissioners with many details pertaining to the operation of a board and that with the county's population being under 110,000, creating the board is discretionary rather than mandatory. (2020 Census data shows Shelby County population at that time to be 24,022)

Four-State Region Favorable for Elevated Fire Conditions

March 27, 2026 - Elevated fire weather conditions are expected for all of our four state region which includes extreme southeast Oklahoma, southwest and south-central Arkansas, east Texas, and northern and central Louisiana.

Weather conditions will be favorable for wildfire growth.

Two Injured in FM 147 Crash Incident

March 27, 2026 - Drivers involved in a two-vehicle crash incident on FM 147 were injured on the morning of Thursday, March 26, 2026.

Shelby County, Timpson Under Burn Ban

March 27, 2026 - Shelby County is under a burn ban as of March 27, 2026. This order also specifically includes the City of Timpson. The order reads as follows:

WHEREAS, the County of Shelby is under imminent threat of severe damage, injury of loss of life or property resulting from the threat of wildfires due to extremely dry grassland fuel, drought and other weather-related conditions; and

Commissioners Set Burn Ban to Begin Friday Morning

March 26, 2026 - During the Shelby County Commissioners' Court meeting held Wednesday, March 25, 2026, County Clerk Jennifer Fountain offered an order for a burn ban from County Judge Allison Harbison that she had previously signed.

After the commissioners spoke during the Commissioners' Court Reports portion of their meeting about conditions in their areas, Commissioner Roscoe McSwain directed that the burn ban be put in place effective first thing Friday morning, March 27, 2026.

Passenger Receives Injury, Driver Faces Arrest Following U.S. 59 Crash

March 25, 2026 - U.S. Highway 59 south of Timpson was the scene of a single-vehicle crash Monday, March 23, 2026, that resulted in injury to one person involved and the arrest of the driver.

Emergency personnel with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, Timpson Volunteer Fire Department and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to the incident location.
