February 8, 2017 - A frightening and sad day for families of shutdown workers at a plant in DeRidder, Louisiana. With many East Texas families making a living working shutdowns and oil field industry jobs which take them away from home, there were Shelby County folks working at the Packaging Corporation of America's DeRidder Containerboard Mill today, February 8, 2017 when an explosion occurred.
February 7, 2017 - According to a press release from DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Department, a Joaquin man with warrants out of Shelby County was arrested following a traffic stop in Logansport, Louisiana. Chad Pridgen, 51, was transfered and booked into the Shelby County Jail on February 2, 2017 for a charge of Hindering Apprehension.

February 3, 2017 - The Shelby County grand jury for the January Term 2017 of the 273rd Judicial District Court met Wednesday, February 1, 2017 and indicted 48 cases on 29 individuals.
Andrea Janise Chadwick was indicted on five separate charges. The first being theft, state jail felony. The indictment alleges on May 11, 2016 Chadwick took a Generac Generator 8000E, and a Maxus Air Compressor valued at $2,500 or more but less than $30,000 from Bobby Joe Jones, the owner.
February 2, 2017 - U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company (USSTC) is voluntarily recalling certain of its smokeless tobacco products, listed in the chart below, manufactured at USSTC’s facility in Franklin Park, IL. USSTC has notified the U.S. Food and Drug Administration of the recall and is working with federal authorities on this matter.
February 1, 2017 - Shelby County Sheriff Willis Blackwell reports that Deputy Mandy Fears was dispatched to a burglary in progress on County Road 4098 in Timpson on January 23.
February 1, 2017 - A section of US 59 coming out of Timpson had a speed limit change approved last year and the new signs indicating the new speed of 50mph and 65mph.
