June 9, 2020 - On Thursday, June 11th, at 11:00 a.m., the University Scholastic League will host a virtual awards presentation to honor Shelbyville High School’s 2020 Boys State Basketball Championship season. The online Zoom presentation will honor the Shelbyville Dragon coaches, players, and school for their fourth Boys State Basketball State Championship in school history. Mario Osby, Shelbyville High School Principal, will be the Dragon’s featured speaker.
May 20, 2020 - National Director Jason Mitchell presented Tyler Herndon from Center, Texas, a plaque for earning a Dixie Youth National Scholarship for $2,000. Tyler was one of 100 to receive a National Scholarships awarded in 2020 by Dixie Youth Baseball.
May 19, 2020 - David Schmitt is on the move after leading the Shelbyville Dragons to three straight state tournaments and an outright title in the 2018-19 season.
This past season, Shelbyville was given a special trophy for making it to state but not getting to play due to COVID-19 causing the cancelation of the season.
Schmitt will be the new athletic director and boys head basketball coach for Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill. The Red Devils are coming off of an 18-14 season.
April 21, 2020 - Organizers of the annual Center Broadcasting Co./Shelby County Bass Anglers’ Take a Kid Fishing Bream Tournament, that was scheduled for May 9, announced this week, the event has been cancelled, with no plans to re-schedule this year.
Tournament director Lori Alvis says in light of the recent COVID-19 social distancing, and orders from the Sabine River Authority, the 42nd kid’s fishing tourney will not take place on the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend at Huxley Bay Marina on Toledo Bend.
March 12, 2020 - Joaquin Lady Rams Varsity are 13-1 on the season and 2-0 in district with 2 shutout wins against Douglass and Cushing.
Chloee Throws Shutout As Joaquin Lady Rams Defeats Cushing
Chloee Mason had all the right stuff on Tuesday for Joaquin Lady Rams Varsity, allowing zero runs and besting Cushing by a score of 10-0. They secured the victory thanks to six runs in the second inning. The big inning was thanks to singles by Ebbie McCann and Mason, a home run by Madison Baker, and an error on a ball put in play by Kennedy Stanley.
