April 12, 2021 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a public health alert for approximately 211,406 pounds of raw ground turkey products, produced by Plainville Brands, LLC, a Pennsylvania establishment, due to concerns the products may have caused Salmonella Hadar illness. A recall was not requested because it is believed that the products are no longer available for consumers to purchase.
FSIS is concerned that some product may be frozen and in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase. Retail locations that may receive returned product from consumers should destroy this product immediately.
The raw ground turkey products were produced on December 18, 2020 through December 29, 2020. The following products are subject to the public health alert:
1-lb. packages of Nature’s Promise Free from 94% LEAN | 6% FAT Ground Turkey with Use by/freeze/sell by date of 1/1/21, 1/3/21,1/4/21, 1/8/21 and 1/10/21 on the front of the package.
1-lb. packages of Wegman 94% LEAN | 6% FAT Ground Turkey with Use by/freeze/sell by date of 1/3/21, 1/4/21, 1/8/21 and 1/10/21 on the front of the package.
3-lb. packages of Wegman 94% LEAN | 6% FAT Ground Turkey with Use by/freeze/sell by date of 1/3/21, 1/4/21, 1/8/21 and 1/10/21 on the front of the package.
1-lb. packages of Plainville Farms Ground White Turkey 93% | 7% Fat with Use by/freeze/sell by date of 1/10/21 on the front of the package.
The products bear establishment number EST. P-244 inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide.
FSIS and its public health partners, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), public health and regulatory officials are investigating a multistate outbreak of 28 Salmonella Hadar illnesses in 12 states with onset dates ranging from December 28, 2020 through March 4, 2021. The traceback investigation for one case patient identified the patient consumed ground turkey produced by Plainville Brands, LLC. An intact, unopened package of Plainville Brands’ ground turkey collected from this case-patient’s home tested positive for Salmonella Hadar and was closely related genetically to the sample from the patient. Evidence collected to date does not link all illnesses to this establishment. Based on the continuing investigation, additional product from other establishments may be involved. FSIS continues to work with CDC and state and local public health partners on this investigation and will provide updated information as it becomes available.
Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses. The most common symptoms of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within 12 to 72 hours after eating the contaminated product. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days. Most people recover without treatment. In some persons, however, the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized. Older adults, infants, and persons with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop a severe illness. Individuals concerned about an illness should contact their health care provider.
FSIS advises all consumers to safely prepare their raw meat products, including fresh and frozen, and only consume raw ground turkey that has been cooked to a temperature of 165°F. The only way to confirm the poultry item is cooked to a temperature high enough to kill harmful bacteria is to use a food thermometer that measures internal temperature, https://www.fsis.usda.gov/safetempchart.

April 9, 2021 - The National Weather Service in Shreveport issued at 7:35pm, CDT Friday, April 9, 2021 a significant weather advisory for Southwestern De Soto Parish in Northwester Louisiana, and Northeastern Shelby Counties until 8:15pm CDT.
At 7:35 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Shelbyville, or 7 miles east of Center, moving northeast at 35 mph.
Penny size hail and winds in excess of 30 mph will be possible with this storm.
Locations impacted include Center, Mansfield, Logansport, Shelbyville, Huxley, South Mansfield, Grand Cane, Stanley and James.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.

Significant weather advisory for Southeastern Nacogdoches, Southwestern Shelby, Northwestern Angelina, and Northwestern San Augustine counties until 7:45pm CDT.
At 7:05pm CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Lufkin, moving east at 45 mph.
Nickel size hail and winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with this storm.
Locations impacted include... Lufkin, Nacogdoches, Hudson, Melrose, Etoile, Woden, Martinsville, Chireno, Redland, Denning, Clawson and Central.

April 9, 2021 - The National Weather Service in Shreveport issued a Watch County Notification for Watch 83 at 6:31pm CDT, Friday, April 9, 2021.
Severe thunderstorm Watch 83 remains valid until 11pm CDT this evening for the following areas. In Louisiana this watch includes 13 parishes: in North Central Louisiana for Caldwell, Grant, Jackson, La Salle, Lincoln, Ouachita, Union, and Winn; in Northwest Louisiana for Bienville, De Soto, Natchitoches, Red River, and Sabine. In Texas this watch includes 6 counties: in Northeast Texas for Angelina, Cherokee, Nacogdoches, Sabine, San Augustine, and Shelby.

April 9, 2021 - The National Weather Service in Shreveport issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning at 4:31pm CDT Friday, April 9, 2021
The Severe Thunderstorm Warning is for Southwestern Panola County in northeastern Texas, Southern Rusk County in northeastern Texas, Northern Nacogdoches County in eastern Texas, Northwestern Shelby County in eastern Texas, and Central Cherokee County in northeastern Texas.
The warning is until 5:30pm CDT. At 4:31pm, a severe thunderstorm was located near Sacul, or 13 miles east of Rusk, moving east at 45 mph.
Radar indicated hazards include 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. Impact includes hail damage to vehicles is expected. Also, expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
Locations impacted include Nacogdoches, Rusk, Alto, Timpson, Garrison, Morrill, Sacul, Douglass, Trawick, Cushing, Appleby, Mount Enterprise, Reklaw, Gary City, Stockman, Lawsonville, Glenfawn, Linwood, Lilbert and Arcadia.

April 9, 2021 – The Center City Council will hold a special ribbon cutting ceremony for the multimillion dollar streetscape renewal project Friday, April 9, 2021, at 1:30 pm at Downtown Center.
“Today’s ribbon cutting is the culmination of the hard work of the City Council, the staff, the contractor, and our residents throughout this process,” said Center Mayor, David Chadwick. “We want to welcome the public to help us celebrate this great milestone.”
“The Downtown Renewal Streetscape project involved a complete reconstruction of all the downtown streets, utility lines, electrical relocation, and landscaping”, explained Center City Manager Chad Nehring. “All of these improvements are also meant to improve pedestrian safety which will help our downtown merchants.”
April 7, 2021 - According to the Texas DSHS Covid-19 Dashboard, the data reflected Wednesday, April 7th, there have been 11 new cases added since Monday, April 5th. Of the new cases, 6 were new confirmed cases and 5 were new probable cases.
The active cases have been decreasing and have remained in the 80s since March 3rd. However, the new cases pushed the active count over the 90 threshold to 93 on Tuesday and 98 on Wednesday.
In 2021, Shelby County had active case counts of 100 plus for 48 days from January 7th through February 23rd. There have been 26 total fatalities reported in 2021.

April 7, 2021 - Tornado Watch 75 is in effect until 8pm CDT for the following locations
Texas counties included are: Angelina, Bowie, Camp, Cass, Cherokee, Franklin, Gregg, Harrison, Marion, Morris, Nacogdoches, Panola, Red River, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, Smith, Titus, Upshur, and Wood.
April 6, 2021 - Center Police Officers, assisted by Texas Department of Public Safety, responded to a residence on Kindle Street Thursday, April 1, 2021 in response to an assault in progress at around 8am.
When the officers arrived, a man involved in the incident had entered a residence while a woman involved had parked her vehicle at the intersection of Kindle and Anderson Street.
The vehicle had received a lot of damage to the windshield and appeared to have recently impacted a human being.
As the officers investigated the altercation, the man was escorted from the house on the 800 block of Kindle Street to an ambulance which transported him from the scene.
Officers continued to speak with the woman involved and they eventually placed her in custody.
According to the Shelby County Jail log Shenerika Epps, 26, of Queen City was transported to the Shelby County Jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felony 2 - $50,000 bond; and prohibited substance in a correctional facility, felony 3 - $20,000 bond.
April 6, 2021 - As of Tuesday, April 6th, Bridge construction is completed and the roadway is back open.
March 16, 2021 - Beginning Monday, March 22, the bridge near the intersection of CR 4020 and CR 4175 will be closed for replacement. All residents north of that point can use CR 4020 out to Highway 87 N. All residents south of that point can detour to CR 4088, and FM 415 out to Hwy 87 N.
