October 3, 2017 - (DPS Update, 8am): A male who was a suspect in a Shelby County domestic disturbance case evaded law enforcement Saturday evening and fled to a residence on CR 3798. After running on foot behind a residence, law enforcement officers heard a single gunshot from behind the home and soon after discovered the suspect dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Shelby County law enforcement officials and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers attempted to stop the suspect on U.S. 84 at approximately 8pm, he fled from officers onto U.S. 59, continuing the felony evading until he reached the residence on CR 3798.
The Texas Rangers (DPS) were called to the scene and began an investigation into the incident. The identity of the suspect is not available for release at this time.
No additional information is currently available.
October 1, 2017 - A multi- agency police chase on the northern end of Shelby County has ended in the death of one man.
Once on scene of the incident located on CR 3798, Shelby County Today learned constables were dispatched to a disturbance at a residence on the road sometime before 8pm September 30, 2017 and upon arrival the alleged assailant had left the scene with a 6-year-old child.
Constables Roy Cheatwood, Jake Metcalf, Jamie Hagler and Zach Warr were all in search of the individual when he was located at a car wash in Joaquin, and from there a high-speed pursuit began down U.S. Highway 84 in the direction of Tenaha.
Additional units with the Texas Department of Public Safety and Shelby County Sheriff's Department engaged in the chase as it traveled to the U.S. Highway 59 overpass where the driver took the Carthage exit and instead traveled back across the highway and onto U.S. 84.
As the trail of vehicles, which at this point gained the Tenaha City Marshal's office, continued toward Joaquin the driver turned onto CR 3798 and headed to a house at the end of the road where he exited the truck and ran to the back of the house. That's when officers heard a shot of gunfire.
ACE EMS was called to respond as well as Margie Anderson, Justice of the Peace Precinct 3, who pronounced the man dead at the scene.
The Texas Rangers were called and Ranger James Hicks arrived on scene at 10pm to begin his investigation, while Shelby County Sheriff's Investigator Mandy Fears gathered statements from those involved as well as witnesses.
Once the scene was cleared, the deceased man was transported by Watson & Sons Funeral Home.
It was later learned the 6-year-old which had been in the vehicle was dropped off with grandparents before the chase ensued.

September 28, 2017 - DeSoto Parish Crime Stoppers Felon of the Week Program is asking for the public’s help in locating/identifying suspect(s) wanted from DeSoto Parish Area.
George R. Gilchrist of Nacogdoches, Tx. Gilchrist is wanted for Residential Contractor Fraud. Gilchrist is described as a white male, 5’11” tall and weighing 250lbs. Gilchrist is 32 years of age.

September 27, 2017 - State Highway 7 East was the scene of a crash involving a 4-wheeler and a passenger car following which the driver of the 4-wheeler was arrested.
Center Fire Department firemen, Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies and Texas Department of Public Safety State Troopers were dispatched to the incident at the intersection of FM 2608 in the James Community.
When officials arrived, the 4-wheeler and its driver remained in the middle of the roadway with the passenger vehicle having come to a stop in the intersection of FM 2608.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper Keith Jones, at around 5:30pm September 21, 2017 Thomas Crocker, 65, of Center was driving a 2005 model Honda TRX 500 when he was exiting a private parking lot at James Grocery in attempts to cross the highway to County Road 3143.
At the time Crocker exited the driveway he entered the path of a black 2014 Nissan driven by Derra Lacole Minniefield, 33, and the vehicles collided resulting in major damage to both.
Crocker was transported by ACE EMS to Nacogdoches Medical Center - Shelby Emergency Department for treatment of any injuries. He was later released that evening and charged with driving while intoxicated - 3rd or more.

Taylor M. Pennock of Stonewall, La. Pennock is wanted for Aggravated Battery. Pennock is described as a white female, 5’4” tall and weighing 105lbs. Pennock is 21 years of age.
(Update): According to DeSoto Parish Crime Stoppers Pennock is in custody as of 11:28am opn September 29, 2017.
Kevin D. Shockley of Shreveport, La. Shockley is wanted for Monetary Instrument Abuse. Shockley is described as a white male, 5’8” tall and weighing 200lbs. Shockley is 38 years of age.

September 22, 2017 - Travelers on U.S. Highway 96 outside of Tenaha should use caution as emergency personnel are currently on scene for a truck fire.
Although the truck is off the highway, be cautious of firemen and law enforcement personnel on scene.

September 20, 2017 - The Porter Street entrance of the Farmers State Bank in Center was the scene of a crash involving a cadillac.
At around 1:20pm on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 what appeared to be a brand new silver Cadillac CT6 driven by what appeared to be an elderly man, traveled in reverse first colliding with a stairway on a building across from the bank. The vehicle then traveled forward across Porter Street where it collided with a covering at the side of the bank.
The Cadillac continued through the rear parking lot of the bank and struck a wall in front of Luke Motley's parking space. Motley is the Chairman of the Board and CEO of Farmers State Bank. Running up the wall were connections to a large generator for the bank. The driver then put the Cadillac into reverse once again and collided with the exterior wall of a dumb waiter that is within the bank. The vehicle finally came to a stop at that point with half of the dumb waiter no longer attached to the building.
ACE EMS arrived on scene with a multitude of law enforcement officials from the Center Police Department and Shelby County Sheriff's Department. The driver was not transported from the scene by ambulance. The crash remains under investigation by the Center Police Department.
While on scene, Mr. Motley explained the reason his car was not in its parking space is he had taken a late lunch.
According to Center Police Officer Brian Wright the driver of the Cadillac Ovias Michael Bailey, 65, of Center stated he pulled in off the Center square and once he was on Porter Street claims his accelerator was broken and got stuck. It appeared he tried to pull into the parking lot for Farmers State Bank and then backed into the stairs of a building across the street from the bank.
A witness stated the Cadillac then traveled into the back of the parking lot where it struck poles connected to a generator in the garage then backed up and struck the building. This was reported by the witness to have occurred three times until the vehicle shut of on the final rear collision.
Bailey was not reported to have received any injuries and he was transported from the scene by a family member. No citations or charges have been issued at this time.
September 19, 2017 - Shelby County Constable Roy Cheatwood, Precinct 3, was contacted on the morning of Monday, September 18, 2017 in reference to a stolen truck-tractor.
The blue 2008 Peterbilt truck, lowboy trailer, and Kubota M7040 with front end loader and bush hog were stolen from the LouTex Contractors yard located on FM 2787 in Joaquin.
Constable Cheatwood began investigating this crime in conjunction with Jamie Hagler, Constable Precinct 2, and searched for the missing vehicles.
Through the help of social media, the truck-tractor was located in San Augustine County Tuesday, September 19, 2017 on FM 1279 at CR 109. Constables Cheatwood and Hagler traveled to the location when they were alerted by San Augustine authorities where they continued their investigation of the theft. While on scene the officers learned from witnesses the truck had been there since very early Monday morning.
Missing from the located stolen items were the tractor and bush hog, which had been on the trailer. An apparent attempt to disconnect the trailer from the truck had apparently failed as the trailer was detached yet resting on the rear of the truck.
The 18-wheeler was returned at the scene to LouTex owners Anthony and Judy Harvey.
At this time the theft remains under investigation as the tractor and bush hog remain missing while all possible clues are being pursued.
