Two Fire Departments Respond to Chicken House Fire

March 8, 2017 - The Center Fire Department was dispatched to a chicken house fire 9 miles south of Center off of State Highway 96 at 5:56pm March 7, 2017. With a cloud of smoke visible from Loop 500 leading firemen to the scene, the department arrived to two chicken houses fully engulfed in flames and San Augustine Fire Department was requested to assist.

Deep East Texas Electric Coop linemen arrived and cut power to the structures and disengaged the generators. The firemen went to work keeping the fire from spreading and worked on putting out the flames. The chicken houses were a total loss. The Texas Forest Service also responded and plowed a line around the area as a precaution. ACE EMS was on scene to ensure everyone's safety.

The chicken houses were empty at the time of the fire and are owned by Matt and Charla Warr. The firemen cleared the scene at 8:30pm.
