February 2, 2022 - The intersection of Hurst Street and Roughrider Drive was the location of a two-vehicle fatal crash incident Tuesday, February 1, 2022.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene just after 9:35pm and when they arrived a grey 2011 Mazda CX-7 passenger car and a white 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck were located in the southbound side of Hurst Street where it meets the eastbound side of Roughrider Drive.
According to the Center Police Department, Jairo Gonzalez, 19, of Center was traveling northbound on Hurst Street driving the Mazda when he attempted to make a left turn onto Roughrider Drive in the path of the Dodge pickup truck driven by William Tipton, 63, of Shallow Water and as a result the truck collided with the passenger side of the Mazda, causing major damage.
Emergency Medical Services evaluated and transported Gonzalez and a 15-year-old minor passenger of the Mazda to Nacogdoches Medical Center - Shelby Emergency Department for treatment of minor injuries. Tipton was not injured and left by private vehicle.
One passenger in the Mazda was Anna Paredes-Sanchez, 56, of Center, who was the mother of the driver and other passenger. She succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased by Donna Hughes, Justice of the Peace Precinct 1. Watson & Sons Funeral Home transported her from the scene of the crash.
The Center Fire Department assisted at the scene with traffic control and vehicle extrication while the Sheriff's Department and Texas Department of Public Safety also assisted with traffic control.
