David's Daily Devotion for Aug. 24

August 24, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, August 24.

My father, a longtime pastor in Houston, was the greatest memorizer of scripture that I have ever known. He had committed the majority of the Bible to memory and would preach sermons, packed with verses, and never use notes. His nickname was “The Walking Bible.” One day, when I was a know-it-all teenager, I asked my dad what his secret was. I asked him what the “trick” was to memorizing scripture. He smiled and replied, “just spend time in The Word.”

Is scripture memorization part of your Christian journey, part of your spiritual discipline? It should be - the Bible commands it. Here are ten short verses, some that I bet you already know by heart. You could easily commit them to memory over the next few days. And Bible memorization is like eating potato chips - once you start you just can't stop!

Philippians 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.

2 Corinthians 5:7 - We walk by faith, not by sight.

Psalm 46:10 - Be still and know that I am God.

Hebrews 13:8 - Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Romans 8:31 - If God be for us, who can be against us?

I Corinthians 16:14 - Let all that you do be done in love.

I Peter 5:7 - Cast all your cares on Him, for He cares for you.

Luke 1:37 - With God, nothing is impossible.

I Thessalonians 5:17 - Pray without ceasing.

I Thessalonians 5:16 - Rejoice always!

Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
