David’s Daily Devotion for Sept. 6

September 6, 2022 - Good Morning!  It’s Tuesday, September 6.

Last week, while I took a few days of vacation, we reprinted some devotion favorites from the past.  Hope you enjoyed them!  And thanks for joining us today, as we begin a new season, as we move into the fall.

But before we move forward, let’s take a quick look back.  Last Tuesday I was sitting on the balcony of an old hotel, in a quiet corner of New Orleans' French Quarter.  As I sat there, drinking some very strong chicory coffee, I looked down on the Ursuline Convent, the oldest building in New Orleans, a city filled with echoes of the past.

The Ursuline Convent was built in 1752, a quarter century before the signing of the Declaration of Independence.  Sitting on that balcony last Tuesday, I was inspired by things that have stood the test of time.  Things like the classic hymn "Amazing Grace", written by a man named John Newton, 20 years after the Ursuline Convent was built.

And then there are these words, written by a man named Paul, 20 centuries ago -

We thank God constantly for this, that when you received the Word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as what it really is, the Word of God, which is at work in you.  I Thessalonians 2:13

And so we thank God today for things that last, things that stand the test of time.  We thank Him for His Word.

Meet you back here tomorrow,

Bro. David
