David’s Daily Devotion for Oct. 26

October 26, 2022 - Good Morning!  It’s Wednesday, October 26.

On this day, in 1901, a bank robbery occurred in Paris, France. As they exited the bank, the thieves didn’t run away on foot, or ride off on horses. They made their escape in a new-dangled invention called an automobile. They got away in the very first “getaway car”!

So, since a car was used in a criminal act, does that make a car evil? Of course not. A thing is just a thing. It’s all in the way one chooses to use it that makes the difference. And the same thing can be true . . . with the Bible.

Over the centuries, the Word of God has been used to support many controversial, criminal, and, yes, even evil practices and ideas. A short list includes Manifest Destiny, dispossession of native peoples, wars of aggression, and slavery. These practices and philosophies, at one time or another, have been supported through the use of Scripture. And still today, there are those that would take selected verses, out of context, to promote a personal agenda.

We must continue to be diligent and discerning as we study His Word. The Apostle Paul said this, in 2 Timothy 2:15 - “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, and who correctly handles the Word of Truth".

Meet you back here tomorrow,

Bro. David
