Poultry Farm Scene of Triple House Fire

January 5, 2023 - A poultry farm located on CR 3047 was the scene of a three house fire December 29, 2022, and two fire departments responded to the scene.

When fire personnel with the Center Fire Department and Shelbyville Volunteer Fire Department arrived at 2:30pm, three chicken houses were fully involved and all appeared to have burned to the same point and were not salvageable at that time.

Once the power and natural gas supplied to the buildings were shut off, fire personnel remained on scene to prevent the fire from spreading beyond the buildings.

The chicken houses were occupied by chicks. According to the Center Fire Department, a farm manager explained the cooling cells in the chicken house located furthest up wind caught fire and during the time farm hands alerted him the cooling cells in the next house caught fire and then the third house caught fire after that.

No one was reported to have been injured as a result of the fires.
