Ribbons will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. The deadline for submitting your essay is December 18, 2015. The topic for the 7th grade is “Genetics and Heredity”. The topic should cover subjects such as studies that are being conducted now by astronauts on the International Space Station as to what effects is staying in space for long periods of time are having on the body. Also, information on subjects such as if you were to live in space and reproduce in space, what would the heredity possibilities be that would or could be passed along to your children? The topic for the 8th grade level students is “Force and Motion”. A few ideas could be for example, when a person is in space on the International Space Station, what effects does force have on the body? Another could be, for example, an astronaut drops a hammer while conducting and experiment and it hits you in the head? Would you feel this pain or would there be any pain at all? Is there a way to forcefully do something in space? If so, what kind of motions would it take to conduct such a force? For more information concerning the contest please, visit our website @ www.nasacolumbiamuseum.com or stop by the museum. Good luck and we look forward to your participation.

We want to thank all of our visitors both, locally and out of state, who stopped by this week for a visit. The holidays are a great time to stop by and visit. We look forward to sharing all the museum has to offer to its visitors. There are many things you can see at the Museum from NASA artifacts to items on loan by the families of the astronauts of STS-107 to items on loan from many other donors.

We also have an amazing gift shop full of really cool gifts. You will find items for children and adults alike, such as 3D space puzzles, space suit back packs, inflatable space shuttles, NASA ties & golf balls, space ice cream, coffee mugs and drinking glasses to name a few of the items. We also have a wide selection of shirts, hats and apparel. Christmas is just around the corner. Come shop the gift shop and find the perfect gift for your special someone.

We encourage our many students and schools, including home schoolers, to take advantage of our Digital Learning Network system. Through our connections directly with NASA, students can have a virtual experience with NASA personnel without leaving the county. Through these programs, students learn about subjects such as microgravity, food in space, erosion, weather, the solar system, robots, rovers, to name a few. Come out today and get your personal tour. Contact the museum to get your classroom set up for our Digital Learning Network @ 409-787-4827 or if you have any question contact Becca.
