May 21, 2024 - A celebration of Mrs. Marie Stanley Long’s 100th birthday on May 16, 2024, with family and community all in attendance.
The gathering was held at Holiday Nursing and Rehabilitation and while family members shared stories of Mrs. Long, county and city officials paid her a visit in honor of her birthday.
Long was presented with a City of Center proclamation by Mayor David Chadwick. The proclamation stated May 7, 2024, to be designated as Marie Long Day.

Mrs. Long was also honored with the presence of Center Fire Chief Keith Byndom, who spoke with her and presented her with a novelty fire fighter helmet.
Shelby County Judge Allison Harbison, hand delivered a certificate from Governor Greg Abbott in honor of Long’s 100th birthday.
The event continued as many shared stories, laughter, as well as cake and punch in joyous celebration of Long.
