June 3, 2024 - Roy Cheatwood, Constable Precinct 3, reports that law enforcement officers are searching for Derrek Hughes, 33, of Joaquin.
Constable Cheatwood attempted to make a traffic stop on Hughes earlier in the day in Joaquin, and he evaded.
Afterwards Hughes was seen on FM 139 before entering a wooded area near CR 3193. Law enforcement officers are actively searching the area for Hughes.
He is wanted on felony warrants out of Livingston involving a shooting incident.
Hughes was last seen wearing a white t-shirt with the American flag on it, blue shorts, and socks.
Throughout the day multiple agencies assisted in the search. De Soto Parish provided air support by way of a helicopter to observe from above. Center Police Department also brought their K9 to the location to search the woods for the suspect.
Meanwhile, Texas Department of Public Safety State Troopers gave support, while Texas Game Wardens also participated in the ground search. Constables from Precinct 4 and Precinct 5 were each available to give backup in trying to locate Hughes, as well as the Shelby County Sheriff's Department and citizens.
Constable Cheatwood encourages residents to ensure their vehicles are locked and keys are not in the vehicle.
