David's Daily Devotion for September 18

September 18, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, September 18.

This morning at 6:00, and every Wednesday morning, my church sponsors a men's prayer breakfast at a restaurant here in Center. Sometimes we have more than 30 men who get up early and gather for food, fellowship, Bible study, and most especially... prayer. The Apostle Paul, in Thessalonians 5:17, instructed us to "pray without ceasing". I don't believe that this is a literal instruction to constantly be uttering prayers 24/7, but rather an encouragement to strive for a spirit of prayer as we go about our daily lives. Jesus was certainly an example of this kind of prayer life.

There are over 50 mentions in the four gospels of Jesus praying. He prayed alone, in public, before meals, before big decisions, before healings and miracles. He prayed at His baptism, at the Transfiguration, at the Lord's Supper, at the Cross. He prayed for Himself, for His disciples, for believers and unbelievers. Jesus prayed for me, and He prayed for you.

Pray without ceasing.

Meet you back here tomorrow,
Bro. David
