February 20, 2025 - The Shelby County Museum is hosting an Open House for a New Exhibit on “Clubs and Organizations” on Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 1-4pm.
The new exhibit will feature many local clubs and organizations who have been essential components of helping to develop Shelby County over the years. The oldest club featured is the Woman’s Reading Club which was organized in 1896 and federated in 1904 as part of the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs (TFWC). The Woman’s Reading Club (CWRC) has a long and important history as a social and civic organization in Center. It was members of the Woman’s Reading Club that held the first public debate on women’s suffrage in Center (1907) and who leased the first “Women’s Rest Room” in town (1914).
Another highlighted organization is the Rotary Club of Center who will be celebrating 100 years of service in May 2025. Others groups represented are the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce (Established 1919), Center Noon Lions Club, 4-H Club, T.E.E.A. / XYZ, Delta Gamma, VFW, and more.
