Dr. Ray West, Shelbyville ISD Superintendent, commented on the importance of academic achievement being and recognizing that accomplishment as well as sports achievement.
“A lot of places when there’s sports teams, if they’re lucky enough to have a state championship, some places get a ring some places don’t, but a lot of them do it for sports teams. I don’t know that every place really realizes that academic team is just as important as a sports team and sports team is just as important as academic team. We’re about everything here,” said Dr. West.
Dr. West reminded everyone that Shelbyville High School has been named UIL Lone Star Cup Champions, and that on September 26, 2025, there will be an early release for a special pep rally.
“Local dignitaries will be there, the UIL and Texas Farm Bureau who sponsors the Lone Star Cup, they’ll be there to present Mr. [Mario] Osby with a special banner and then we’ll have a community tail gate in front of the gym, with free food and refreshments for everybody after the pep rally, and then around 6:45 pre-game before the Carlisle game we will go ahead and be presented with the actual Lone Star Cup,” said Dr. West.
Dr. West stated Mr. Osby and school board members will be receiving the cup on behalf of the school.
During the meeting, each student was recognized and called forward to be presented with their ring.
Students, sponsors and school board members presented with rings include Ethan Jackson, Aiden Swindle, Hayden Page, Travis Caporali, Kennedy McArthur, Brynn Bickham, Cassidy Greer, Angelli Ortiz, Maddie Lout, Cheyenne Berlin, Crystal Harrison, Brooke Davis (coach), Claire Windham, Cole Harrison, Mario Osby, Etola Jones, Joe Tom Schillings, Cole Cooper, and Robbey Dutton. Dr. West stated Esther Harrison, who was not present, would also be receiving a ring.
Kennedy McArthur addressed the school board on behalf of her class in offering gratitude for the support they have received.
“On behalf of all my fellow classmates today, I want to extend a big thank you to the school board, Dr. West, Mr. Osby and of course all of our coaches, because truly without y’all’s unwavering support and confidence in us this accomplishment would not have been possible and we want to thank you so much for giving us this opportunity,” said McArthur. “I hope y’all continue to support us this next season and we hope it’s just as great, if not better.”
