October 3, 2025 - (Photo Album Coming Soon) - The Shelby County 4-H Heart to Hands Project and the Shelby Sewcial Bee presented 12 veterans with Quilts of Valor during the 49th East Texas Poultry Festival activities under the big tent on Thursday, October 2, 2025.
Part 1: Honorees presented quilts are Kevin Martin (1:35), Zachary “Zach” McCormick (3:38), Amanda Campaniello (5:30), Richard Elms (6:59), Daniel Walton (9:14), Benjamin Galindo, Jr. (11:01)
Presenting the quilts were Jheri-Lynn McSwain, Extension Program Specialist, Texas 4-H Youth Development – District 5; Feleshia Thompson, Shelby County Extension Agent; and Shelby Sewcial Bee representative, Michele Clark. Each veteran was introduced and presented their quilts. The following was said to each of the veterans as their quilt was wrapped around their shoulders by 4-H students - “This Quilt of Valor is an expression of gratitude and to thank and comfort you. We honor you for leaving all you hold dear to serve whether in time of crisis or in peace. This Quilt of Valor unequivocally says ‘Thank you for your service and valor in serving our nation.’ We say welcome home and thank you for allowing us recognize you.”
Part 2: Honorees presented quiltes are Allen Wilson (0:00), Anthony N. Drake (2:47), Marvin “Fred” Wilcox (5:26), DeNorris Cloudy (7:10), James Hodge (9:54), and Manuel Ortiz (11:17).
The quilts were sponsored by the Center Noon Lion’s Club, VFW Post 8904, and local individuals.
