October 9, 2025 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, October 9.
We had a full moon earlier this week - did you see it? It wasn’t one of your regular, everyday, run-of-the-mill full moons either. It was a Harvest moon and a Super moon. A Super moon occurs when the moon and the earth are at their closest distance. It makes the moon appear to be up to 15% larger and 30% brighter. The Harvest moon is the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox, the first day of fall. It’s a big week in the night sky. Check it out!
There are all sorts of nicknames for full moons. There’s the Strawberry moon, with a pinkish hue, and the Blood moon, that looks red. There’s the Wolf moon in January and the Flower moon in May. And there’s the Blue moon. A Blue moon is a second full moon in the same calendar month. It’s pretty rare, occurring only about every three years. Thus the old saying - “once in a Blue moon”.
The King James Bible mentions the word moon 62 times. And one of those times is in one of my favorite Psalms. A psalm of creation, a psalm of praise. Let Psalm 8 speak to you again - in this week of the full moon.
O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens. When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels, and crowned them with glory and honor. You have made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet; all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
