Matthews Announces Candidacy for District Clerk Office

December 10, 2025 - I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am Karen May Matthews, and I am seeking your vote for the District Clerk's Office in the March 2026 primary.

I am a 1978 graduate of Logansport High School, studied at Panola College and a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University. I have held various jobs with administrative duties including receptionist, payroll, and insurance at Dow Chemical in Logansport for three years and at Louisiana Pacific for eight years. After that, I returned to school at SFA and took 76 hours in 18 months, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in May 1993, while raising a family.

I have a cumulative 31 years in education at Center, Joaquin, Mansfield, and Tenaha until retiring from Center in May 2024.

I have two children, my daughter, Hannah Wulf owns and operates Doggie Day Spa in Center and my son-in-law Josh is the manager of Center Motor ATV. They are the parents of my only grandchild, Adam. As some of you may know, my son Adam, was killed in Joaquin on Valentine's Day 2002, along with his two friends in a train accident.

After the outpouring of love and support of the community after the tragic death of my son, if elected, I would appreciate the opportunity to prove my loyalty and serve our community to the best of my ability.
