January 6, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, January 6.
If you read yesterday’s devotion, you probably noticed that I declared it to be the first Monday... of 2025. Several faithful readers were kind enough to inform me that the year we are living in is actually 2026. Thanks! This was a reminder that it usually takes me about two weeks to settle in to the new number. Maybe you have that same problem. I was also reminded that we humans are often slow to adapt to change.
If I want a cold glass of milk (my favorite drink), I open the door to what I call my “icebox.” I am aware that this appliance has been called a refrigerator for almost a century. Give me a little more time, I’ll adapt. And, although I have access to the electronic reader Kindle, almost every word I read is written on the printed page. Give me a couple of weeks, I’ll change. Finally, my iPad places dozens of online scripture sites at my fingertips, but when I go to the Word, my fingers still go to my well-worn Bible. I’m not sure that’s ever going to change.
The Bible is full of people who were resistant to change and slow to adapt. Names like Moses and Jonah and Peter and Paul come quickly to mind. Their stories, their spiritual journeys, the ups and down of their lives, resonate with us. And we are reminded, as they were, that our God is patient. He is patient with me. He is patient with you. Hallelujah!
Peter said it like this - “The Lord is not slow to fulfill His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you...” And Paul added this thought - “I was shown mercy, so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display His immense patience, as an example for those who would believe in Him and receive eternal life.”
Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
