January 8, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, January 8.
On this day, in 1935, a baby boy was born in Tupelo, Mississippi. His parents named him Elvis. The boy went on to become, arguably, the most famous entertainer in history. He sold more than 500 million records - second only to The Beatles. He was a cultural icon. He was the King of Rock and Roll.
But, if you had asked Elvis Presley to name his favorite style of music, he would have answered... Gospel. He grew up in the church and loved its music all his life. Elvis recorded several Christian albums, and surprisingly, they were his only records to receive Grammy awards. He appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show three times, and at the end of the last broadcast he sang the gospel classic “Peace in the Valley”.
Elvis would have turned 90 years old today. But, like too many popular stars, he died before his time. After his passing, a single book was found on the nightstand beside his bed... a well-worn Bible.
Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
