David’s Daily Devotion for Jan. 15

January 15, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, January 15. Does God have a sense of humor? An interesting question. I believe that he does. Let’s explore this together.

I believe we can see God’s sense of humor in His creation. Have you ever really looked at a giraffe? How about the emu, or the camel, or the duck-billed platypus. Let’s face it - these are not serious animals. It’s fun to imagine Adam trying to name critters like these, while being overcome with laughter!

I believe we can see God’s sense of humor in His instruction. Proverbs 15:13 tells us that “a happy heart makes a cheerful face”. And a few verses later, we find this prescription, “a merry heart is good medicine”. Ecclesiastes 3 puts it simply - “There’s a time to laugh”.

I believe we can see God’s sense of humor in His intention. At the very beginning of the Bible, we’re given this amazing revelation - “God made man in His own image”. So, the best parts of who we are, are reflections of who He is. He gave us a sense of humor because a sense of humor is part of His character, too.

Finally, Christ surely has a sense of humor. How else could He have made it through those three years with His disciples. Twelve men who often missed the point, frequently spoke without thinking, and sometimes fell on their faces. In other words, men pretty much like me and you. The mental image of Jesus laughing with His disciples brings a smile to our hearts.

The gift of laughter. The gift of humor. A gift from God.

Meet you back here tomorrow,

David
