David's Daily Devotion for February 10

February 10, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, February 10, and we continue our week-long series on love, leading to Valentine’s Day.

Ever wondered who Saint Valentine was? Well, he was a priest who lived in Italy, way back in the 3rd century. His work was primarily ministering to persecuted Christians, and he died a martyr’s death in Rome - on February 14. Two hundred years later he was granted sainthood, and February 14 was designated by the Church as a holy day.

This special day, originally, had nothing to do with the theme of romantic love. That tradition did not begin until the 14th century. The English poet, Chaucer, using poetic license, concocted a history that connected Saint Valentine with what was then called “courtly” love. And so, ever since, with the encouragement of candy makers and Hallmark, February 14 has been a day to express love through gifts of flowers and cards and heart-shaped boxes filled with sweets. Last year 25 billion dollars was spent on Valentine’s Day! I wonder what Saint Valentine would think about that.

Here’s a thought from God’s Word about love. No charge!

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Proverbs 3:3

Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
