March 30, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Monday, March 30. I hope you had a wonderful and blessed Palm Sunday. Now we begin Holy Week, or as some call it, Passion Week - the days that lead to Easter. Each of these days has something to teach us. Let’s take a look at Monday, the Monday that occurred some 2000 years ago.
After the palm procession into Jerusalem, Jesus and his disciples spent Sunday night in Bethany, two miles east of the Holy City. They rested in the home of good friends Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. But on that Monday morning, they were back in Jerusalem, and they found themselves in the Temple.
The first temple was built by King Solomon in 950 B.C. and was destroyed by the Babylonians 500 years later. The Babylonian exiles rebuilt it when they returned home, and then, 20 years before Bethlehem, King Herod added to that structure. At the time of Christ, it was known as Herod’s Temple.
When Jesus walked in that Monday morning, He was not pleased with what he witnessed. During the Passover festival, Jews from around the civilized world traveled to Jerusalem, came to the Temple. But before they could purchase a sacrifice, their foreign money had to be changed. The “money changers” were notorious for cheating the people, for creating a “den of thieves”. Christ angrily drove out these evil men and overturned their tables.
Anger is often thought of as a sin, but Jesus exhibits a righteous anger that can be a tool to accomplish God’s will.
However, when we take a stand for God, there is often a price to be paid. On that Monday morning in Herod’s Temple, Christ caught the eye of the priests and the scribes and the Pharisees.
And a step was taken toward the Cross.
Meet you back here tomorrow,
