July 8, 2026 - The community is invited to celebrate an important piece of local history during the dedication of the official historical marker for the Historic Old Jail built at the same time as the 1885 Historic Courthouse.
The marker dedication will take place this Saturday, July 11th at 10:15am, at the Historic Jail on the historic courthouse lawn. Community members, local officials, historians and visitors are encouraged to attend the special ceremony honoring one of the area’s most significant landmarks.
The Historic Jail has stood as a symbol of law, order and the enduring spirit of the community for well over a century. The dedication of the official historical marker recognizes the building’s architectural and historical significance while helping preserve its story for future generations. The dedication is also about honoring the people, stories and history that helped shaped our community.
The dedication will be followed by a performance by Dr. Shellie O’Neal in the Historic Courthouse and fun family friendly games on the lawn. The Shelby County Firefighters Association will be cooking pulled pork sandwich plates for $10.
