David’s Daily Devotion for July 15

July 15, 2026 - Good Morning!  It’s Wednesday, July 15.

On July 15, 1798, a great mystery was solved.  Napoleon’s army had just invaded Egypt, when a French soldier stumbled upon an engraved stone in a town called Rosetta.  This “Rosetta Stone” would become the key to unlock the mystery of the ancient Egyptian language, a language that was born 4000 years before Bethlehem.

By modern times, the Egyptian hieroglyphs (picture symbols) had become indecipherable.  The Rosetta Stone featured a royal decree written in Ancient Egyptian.  Underneath, the same decree was written in Ancient Greek, a tongue that was still understood in 1798.  And so, by comparing the two texts, the great mystery began to unravel.  The discovery of the Rosetta Stone remains one of the greatest archaeological finds of all time.   The next time you find yourself in London, you can see it in the British Museum.

The Rosetta Stone was already three centuries old when the Apostle Paul wrote these words to the church in Colossi - “The mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, has now been revealed to the Lord’s people.  Through them God has chosen to make known to the world the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory”.

Meet you back here tomorrow,
David
