July 17, 2026 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, July 17.
“Speak to me, O Muse, of the man of twists and turns, driven time and again off course, once he had plundered the hallowed heights of Troy.” These words are the first words of a very famous story. A story written by the Greek poet, Homer. A major epic that is, perhaps, the oldest surviving work of literature... “The Odyssey.”
People have been talking about Homer’s tale ever since he put it down on paper, thousands of years ago. And lately they’re talking about it again. This summer’s blockbuster movie, “The Odyssey,” opens today in theaters all around the world. I really want to see it, but I’m not a big fan of crowds, so I’ll wait till next week. It’ll probably end up making a zillion dollars and winning armfuls of awards. A good story has a universal appeal and an eternal power.
At about the time Homer was penning his epic, a King named David was writing down these words - “The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandments of the Lord are pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether.” (Psalm 1)
Words with a universal appeal and an eternal power.
Meet you back here on Monday,
David
