September 4, 2026 - The US Highway 59 exit ramp at the intersection with George Bowers Drive in Tenaha was the scene of a major two-vehicle crash Friday, September 4, 2026.
Multiple agencies responded to the crash location to come to the aid of those involved.
According to Tenaha Police Chief Michael Davidson, a black 2024 Buick Envista driven by a 17-year-old female driver of Center was exiting from US Highway 59 southbound onto George Bowers Drive when she attempted to continue left into a fuel station at the opposite side of the roadway. At that time a white Freightliner truck tractor driven by Jackie Sterns, 37, of Nacogdoches was in its designated lane traveling in the same direction. As the Buick moved into the lane of the 18-wheeler, it was struck, spun around and subsequently came to rest against a utility pole.
Sterns lost control of the truck tractor and it traveled into an open field where it finally collided with a utility pole as well.
The 17-year-old was transported by ambulance to Nacogdoches Medical Center in Nacogdoches for treatment of possible injuries.
Sterns had no reported injuries.
No citations have been issued as of this report. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
Tenaha Volunteer Fire Department personnel were on scene to assist those involved and they provided traffic control until the scene was clear.
Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies and Texas Department of Public Safety State Troopers assisted at the scene.
