Ruben Smith, 90, of the Arcadia Community, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at Holiday Nursing Center. He was born November 20, 1919 in Arcadia to J.F. Smith and Josephine King Smith. For 60 years Mr. Smith had been a member of the Arcadia Church of Christ.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, January 1, 2010 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 2, 2010 at Watson & Sons Chapel with Mr. Tom Barthel and Mr. Bo Stephens officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Shelby County.

St. Luke’s Hospital in Sugarland.

Mrs. Louann Harris Parrish, 76, of Tenaha passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2009 in Carthage, Texas.

Mrs. Louann Harris Parrish was born November 12, 1933 in Panola County, Texas to the marriage of Joe Bailey and Clovis Parker Harris. As the youngest of two children, Louann attended Carthage Schools and worked as a Nurse at Panola General Hospital. Mrs. Parrish loved being outdoors, fishing, and tending to her flowers. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Tenaha. Mrs. Parrish is preceded in death by her parents, son, James Harris Jackson, and brother, Joe Parker Harris.

William “Dwight” Biggar, 48, of Lusby, MD formerly of Ferndale, MI and Center, Texas, passed away December 26, 2009 at his residence in Lusby, Maryland. He was born February 11, 1961 in Center to Hubert Earl Biggar and Blanch Marie Campbell Biggar. He was the husband of Judith Ann Biggar whom he married on December 19, 1992 in Ferndale, Michigan. Dwight graduated from Center High School in 1979; and went on to attend college at Stephen F. Austin State University where he graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor’s degree. He worked for the U. S. Census Bureau as a statistician for twenty-two years until his retirement on January 16, 2009. Dwight was a member of Southern Calvert Baptist Church in Lusby. He enjoyed woodworking, building models and the Dallas Cowboys.

Local visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, January 2, 2010 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Local funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Watson & Sons Chapel. Interment will follow at Sand Hill Cemetery.

Tammy Williford Woodfin, 39, of Joaquin, passed away Friday, December 25, 2009, in Silverton, Colorado. She was born December 27, 1969 in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas to Robert J. Williford and Diann Ross Williford. Tammy was a 1988 graduate of Joaquin High School, and was a director of nursing at Willis Knighton Hospital in Shreveport. She was a member of the Joaquin Church of Christ.

Services for Mary “Jane” Metz, 91, of Kilgore will be twelve noon, Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at the Kilgore Bible Church in Kilgore with hers sons, Barry and Dick Metz officiating. Burial will be three p.m., Wednesday at the Fairview Cemetery in Center, Texas.

Mrs. Metz was born on December 25, 1917 in San Augustine to the late Carl Elmo and Mary Collins Slaughter Hall. She was a graduate of Center High School and Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas. Jane married Thomas (“Tom”) Wesley Metz on July 26, 1942. Tom and Jane, as part of Tom’s Allis Chalmers career, lived in Center, Dallas, Indianapolis, Philadelphia, New Orleans, and then after retiring, in Hideaway Lake near Lindale. They were active
Methodists in each of these communities. During her long and purposeful life, Mrs. Metz taught in various secondary schools, was an avid bridge player and enthusiastic golfer, loved puzzles and games, and volunteered generously for many organizations including We Care and Meals on Wheels. She was known especially for her magnanimity and graciousness, with family and church her paramount interests.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Pat Metz of Boulder, Colorado, Dick and Jackay Metz of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Barry and Julia Metz of Kilgore; sister, Jean Nelson of Houston; grandchildren, Ryan Metz and his wife Dana of Lafayette, Louisiana, Jill and her husband, Demian Pavlicek of Dallas, Tom Metz, III of Los Angeles, California, Julie Johnston and her husband, Mike of Baton Rouge, Jonathan Metz of Baton Rouge, Austin, Jane, Anne and Lauren Metz of Kilgore; two great-grandchildren, Cole and Kate Metz of Lafayette, Louisiana; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Metz was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years and a brother Carl Hall of Harlingen, Texas.

The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home Tuesday evening between six and seven-thirty p.m.

Mrs. Ladonia Mosby, age 77, of San Augustine, Texas passed away Thursday morning at Twin Lakes Care Center.

Services will be Saturday, 12 Noon at Roberts Baptist Church, San Augustine, Texas with interment at Roberts Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Artis Mosby.

Mrs. Mosby is survived by two brothers, Tommy J. Standsberry Sr., of Center and Raymond J Standsberry of Opelika, Alabama. Two sisters, Yvonne Tate of Colorado Springs and Mary Jean Thompson of Tucson, Arizonia. Along with a Host of nieces and nephews.


Mr. Paul Seay September 27, 1925 – December 15, 2009

Graveside services for Mr. Paul Seay, age 84, of Yoakum, TX, formerly of Tenaha, TX, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at Restland Cemetery in Tenaha with Dr. Lee Evans officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 12 Noon on Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Mr. Seay passed away on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 15, 2009, in Bonham, TX.

Paul Seay was born on September 27, 1925, n Spartanburg, SC to Paul and Annie Belle Belcher Seay. He graduated from Spartanburg High School. Mr. Seay married Lois Jean Pruett on Dec. 20, 1957, in San Francisco. Mr. Seay served his county in the U.S. Navy, retiring after 20 years. He later worked for Daniels Construction in Greenville, SC as safety engineer for over 20 years. Mr. Seay moved to Tenaha in 1985, from South Carolina. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tenaha.

Mr. Seay is survived by two sons, Dr. Michael Seay and wife Belinda of Yoakum, and David Seay and wife Doris of Waldron, Arkansas; two grandchildren, Dusty Seay of Longview and George Seay of Yoakum; and three step-grandchildren, Maranda Hammons of Longview, Erin Nahgahnub and husband Joe of Barksdale A.F.B., and Holly Hammons of Tulsa.

Born December 26, 1915, in Timpson, Ruth Porterfield was the daughter of the late John Henon and Annas (Biering) Porterfield. She passed away December 15, 2009, in Timpson.

Born September 16, 1926, in Timpson, Gene Bogue was the son of the late Hollis E. and Mary Estella (Crump) Bogue. He was a graduate of Timpson High School and a veteran of the U. S. Navy. Gene was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of Timpson American Legion Post #90 and Timpson Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy Bogue of Nacogdoches, TX; son Rick Bogue and wife Chris of Tomball, TX; daughters Gayle Mathews of Houston, and Sandy Galloway of Humble; stepsons Johnny Blankenship and wife Tamye of Garrison, and James Blankenship and wife Patti of Tyler; stepdaughters Janice Gatliff and husband Gary of Nacogdoches, and Doris Sowell and husband Roger of Center; sister Frances Graves of Timpson; 5 grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; 4 step great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bogue was preceded in death by brother James Bogue.

Robert D. Rushing, 73, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2009, at his home in Center. He was born March 30, 1936 in Center to Robert D. Rushing, Sr. and Maude Clark Rushing. Mr. Rushing was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Sam Samford Masonic Lodge #149. He was also a member of the Lone Star Dutch Oven Society and the James Church of Christ.

Funeral services for Mr. James Allen Jones, age 71, of Beckville, Texas, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Jackson and Pastor John Ulrich officiating. Interment will follow in Oddfellows Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Jones passed away on Saturday morning, December 12, 2009, in Longview, after a lengthy illness.

James Allen Jones was born on February 8, 1938, in the Arcadia Community of Shelby County, Texas to Walter Scott and Thelma Lilly Jones. He married Kay Berry Green on November 8, 1963, in Dallas. Mr. Jones worked for C.I.S.D for many years. He was a member of the Oddfellows and Masonic Lodges. Mr. Jones moved to Panola County in 1982, from Gordonville, Texas. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Carthage. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents; a half-sister, Ann; one grandson, Eric McDaniel; and one grandchild, Baby Molpus.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kay Jones of Beckville; two daughters, Renee Molpus and husband Jason of Longview and Cheryl Denson and husband Dewey of Harleton; one sister, Barbara Keene and husband Floyd of Pasadena; six grandchildren, Chase Allee and fiancé Cierra Cato of Harleton, Megan Davis and husband Dustin of Gary, Ricky Allee of Henderson, Callie Allee of Harleton, and Ashley and Gabrielle Denson of Sims.

Funeral services for Shirley Ann (Vaught) Fancher, age 74, of Timpson, TX, will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, December 10, 2009, in Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Timpson, with Bro. Cliff Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery. Mrs. Fancher passed away December 08, 2009, in Timpson.

Born January 15, 1935, in the Stockman Community of Shelby County, TX, Shirley Ann Fancher was the daughter of the late James Oscar and Lena (Francis) Vaught. She and Billy Fancher were married in her home in the Stockman Community in 1952. Shirley lovingly cared for Billy, until his death in 2004, and son Randy. She was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and enjoyed the hours spent quilting with the ladies of Mt. Olive.

Survivors include son Randy Fancher of Timpson; 2 brothers: Maxwell Vaught of Humble, TX and Loral Vaught of Silsbee, TX; 3 sisters: Vernell McKinney of Center, TX, Mae Minton of Center, TX, and Faye Bolton of Timpson; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Shirley was preceded in death by 4 brothers: Shorty, Waide,
J. E., and Johnny Vaught and 2 sisters: Rachel Samford and Gwendolyn Vaught.

Bob Lacey McAdams, age 81 of Leona, Texas passed away Friday evening, December 4, 2009 in Nacogdoches Medical Center. Bob Lacey McAdams was born September 2, 1928 in Leona, Texas to H.D. McAdams Sr. and Jessie Raye Gunn McAdams. Bob Lacey McAdams was retired from Southwestern Bell and was a self-employed rancher, he was of the Methodist Faith.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Leona Methodist Church in Leona, Texas.

Mae Gaspard Hutto, age 68, of Shelbyville passed away Friday evening, December 5, 2009 in Lufkin Memorial Hospital in Lufkin. Mae Gaspard Hutto was born March 19, 1941 in Kaplan, La to John Gaspard and Margaret Lemaire Gaspard, she was a former resident of Bridge City, Texas. Mrs Hutto was a member of the Lydia Missionary Baptist Church in Huxley and was retired from Bridge City Independent School District.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, December 7, 2009 at Watson and Sons Chapel with Rev. Gordon Vaughn, Rev. Luke Garrett and Rev Wes Hall oficiating. Interment will follow at the Carroll Cemetery.
