Peggy Joyce Wicker was born on September 25, 1935 to Lewis and Addie Wicker. She made her first significant mark in this world by weighing a whopping thirteen pounds. Peggy spent her life in Center, Texas, graduating from Center High School in 1953. She continued her education and graduated from Massey Business College. In October, 1955 she married Charles “Hutch” Hutcherson. They were married for 56 wonderful years. To this happy marriage three daughters were born, Jayne, Penny and Lizann. Their first child, Jayne (Little Bit), in no way outdid her mother, by weighing only 3 lbs. 2 oz. Peggy devoted her life to her family. She was an expert seamstress and enjoyed making clothes for herself and her girls. She made doll clothes for “Little Bit” to wear, Penny’s cheerleading uniforms and wedding dresses for both Lizann and Penny. This was a talent she continued to share for many years. Along with being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Peggy kept a full time job outside the home. She worked as a bookkeeper at Menefee Motors/Construction Company for 30 years. In 1993 she went to work for Judge Dock Watson as his secretary. She took great pride in being a lifelong resident of Shelby County and was instrumental in raising funds to restore the historical 1895 Shelby County Courthouse. One of the many projects she accomplished was the planning and fundraising efforts to complete the brick sidewalk on the inside of the Center Square. The accomplishment she was most proud of was counting the bricks on the Shelby County Courthouse. Peggy always gave credit to Mattie Dillenger, by saying, “Mattie always taught her everything she ever knew about the history of Shelby County.” Peggy dearly loved her family and friends and all the residents of Shelby County. She and Hutch continued to support the Center Rough Riders throughout the years. Whether they attended or not, there wasn’t a season that went by that they didn’t collect their “senior citizen” football passes. There was a certain “hometown-pride” in having those passes in their possession. Most people will remember her by her laughter, her ability to talk to anyone, and her never-ending “spunk.” In 2011 when Peggy’s health failed and she required assistance at her home, God sent us Lisa. Lisa loved and nurtured Peggy and became a part of our family. Words cannot express the gratitude our family has for Lisa and her family. She walked into our home with a smile on her face, and each day when she left it was with a smile on her face and an “I love you, Mrs. Peggy.” Peggy will be missed by many, but none will miss her more than Hutch and her three girls. In the way she always said it, we are saying it now… “Thank you, thank you, ver-ver much”, mama, for the love and cherished memories you have left with us. You will always be in our hearts. Hutch, Jayne, Penny and Lizann
