Family visitation will be Friday, February 21, 2025, from 10am to 11am at Cedar Grove Baptist Church. His ashes will be laid to rest at Gary Cemetery in Gary, Texas at a private family service.
Mr. Rick Dison was born on December 7, 1949, in Rio Grande City, Texas, to Luther C. Dison and Ozell Jones Dison. He graduated from Carthage High School in 1967, where he formed lifelong friendships that he cherished throughout his life. Rick was a talented mechanic who went on to open his own business, Rick Dison Transmissions, which allowed him to provide successfully for his family until his well-deserved retirement. He shared a special bond with his mother, Ozell Dison, whom he lovingly cared for until her passing in 2008. Rick made it a point to visit her during his lunch hour to ensure she was well, demonstrating his devotion and deep love for her.
Mr. Rick Dison gave his life to the Lord at the age of forty and became a baptized member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. His deep faith in Christ was evident in the way he lived, serving as the Sunday School Director, giving devotionals on Sunday mornings, teaching RAs to a group of boys who he would take coon hunting, and sharing his musical gifts by singing specials in church. He understood the importance of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and committed to walking with Him daily.
A talented guitarist and singer, Mr. Dison loved sharing his gift of music across Panola County at various fundraisers and community events. He played a key role in organizing The Country Music Hayride in downtown Carthage, Texas, offering family-friendly entertainment on Saturday nights. His performances brought joy, laughter, and a sense of togetherness, especially at family gatherings like fish fries and reunions. Mr. Dison was known for his quick wit and his talent for making people laugh. His humor, paired with his love for life, was contagious.
While his formal education ended with a high school diploma, Mr. Dison was incredibly resourceful and talented in countless ways. He was a jack of all trades, whether working on various projects, rigging things in inventive ways—what his kids affectionately called "ricking"—or using his skills as a champion coon hunter! He was also an avid fisherman and found great joy living on Lake Murvaul.
In 2014, he faced and bravely conquered cancer, a testimony to his strength and perseverance through hardship. After retiring to Lake Murvaul, he enjoyed a peaceful life with his loyal partner, Linda Hancock. Together, they cherished the lake life, family events, and sharing music at Linda's café in Timpson, Texas.
Rick Dison was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His love for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was immeasurable. He took great pride in hearing about their lives and adventures. His presence will be deeply missed for the humor, joy, love, and laughter he brought into the lives of everyone who knew him.

Betty Faye O’Donnell Smelser, 85, of Center, Texas, passed away on January 30, 2025, surrounded by loved ones in her home. She was born on November 7, 1939, in Ruston, Louisiana, to Helen Faye Price O’Donnell and H.M. “Tarzan” O’Donnell.
Soon the young baby and her parents moved to Logansport, Louisiana, where she grew up with her many cousins, sisters, and members of the Price family. Betty graduated from Logansport High School in May of 1957. During her senior year she and fellow majorettes were passengers in a car following a football game when they were hit by a drunk driver. Betty had severe injuries, but she was determined to live and graduate – which she did after many surgeries and much therapy she entered Louisiana Tech in Ruston. There she met the love of her life, Lynwood Smelser and got her “Mrs” degree in 1959. Betty and Lynwood were married in Logansport and celebrated over 57 years together until Lynwood passed away in 2016.
Betty Faye was a woman who wore many hats. She was a wife, mother, sister, and a tireless worker. She stayed busy running houses and raising her two boys while her husband traveled for his government jobs. After “retiring” they moved to Center, Texas, and moved next door to her sister. She soon began working for her brother-in-law at Medico Pharmacy. Her greatest pleasure was helping people. Everyone was important to her. Many customers will remember that sweet smile when she greeted them. Betty went out of her way to deliver medicine to customers who could not drive. In her later years she enjoyed her backyard, which was filled with flowers, birds, and her hummingbirds. Betty was an avid fan of “her” Cowboys. She also loved her Astros, Rangers, and the Mavericks. She loved watching sports.
Betty will be missed by those who knew her. Most of all, we will miss her kindness, her laughter, and her ability to make the world seem good.

Bonnie Sue Lowe Dicks was welcomed into the arms of her Savior on January 30th, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and community. She was the most generous, modest, and Godly woman, always putting others before herself and living as a true reflection of Christ’s love.
Born to loving parents, Leon Lowe and Blanche Roberts Lowe of Joaquin, on June 17, 1941, Bonnie was given her name simply because her mother liked the sound of it. Bonnie grew up in the country in a small but loving home alongside her two sisters Margie and Patsy, and her brother, Buren. Life was simple but full of joy, from playing basketball, tending the family garden, and spending summer days fishing. Their modest home was rich with love, laughter, and the values that shaped her into the kind, hardworking woman she became. It was in Joaquin’s small Jackson Missionary Baptist Church, that Bonnie discovered her deep love for God, and at the age of 12, she made the life-changing decision to follow Christ, an unwavering devotion that would guide her every step.
A proud graduate of Joaquin High School, Bonnie excelled in math and loved traveling with her basketball team. She later attended Spencer-Draughon School in Shreveport, Louisiana, before settling in Nacogdoches, Texas, where she built a beautiful life filled with love, friendship, and faith. She often described Nacogdoches as a place of warm, welcoming people, and she, in turn, made it even brighter with her presence.
Bonnie’s work ethic was unmatched. This was an attribute instilled in her by her parents and grandparents. She believed that if you wanted something, you had to work for it, a lesson she carried throughout her years of dedicated service at Stripling’s Pharmacy and later at Commercial Bank of Texas, from which she eventually retired. Of all the titles and jobs Bonnie held in her lifetime, none brought her more joy than that of "Nana." Being a grandmother was her greatest blessing, and she embraced it with boundless love, gentle wisdom, and endless hugs. Her grandson, Matthew, was the light of her life, and she filled their days together with warmth, laughter, and cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
Faith and gratitude were at the heart of everything Bonnie did. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday, a time when she could reflect and give thanks for the many blessings in her life. Easters were spent in church, followed by Easter egg hunts and fried chicken. Her favorite Bible verse, 1 John 4:7-8, perfectly captures the way she lived her life: "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God, and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love."
Bonnie found joy in the simple things, from cheering for her beloved Duke basketball team, sharing laughter with friends, and most of all, spending time with her family. She was a quiet, constant presence of love, strength, and faith, and her impact will be felt for generations to come.
Bonnie is now reunited with those who have gone before her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Blanche Lowe, and brother in law, Bill Anderson, and nephew, Billy Wayne Anderson.
She is survived by:
Son, Billy Dicks and wife, Stacy of Nacogdoches
Daughter, Brooke Dicks of Nacogdoches and partner Kim LaRue of Hudson, Texas
Grandson, Matthew Dicks of Nacogdoches
Sisters:
Margie Anderson
Patsy Lowe of Joaquin
Brother, Buren and wife, Mary Ellen Lowe of Joaquin
Many nieces, nephews, and cousins, who she loved dearly.
A celebration of Bonnie’s life will be held at Laird Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. Visitation will begin at 9am, with a service beginning at 10am. Interment will immediately follow at Jackson Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Joaquin, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Bonnie Dicks to Jackson Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 15, Joaquin, Texas, 75954 to honor Bonnie’s lifelong dedication to faith and kindness.
Bonnie’s life was a beautiful testament to love, humility, and unwavering faith. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
