Edith Swan, age 100 of Joaquin, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016 at her home in Joaquin.

Services will be 2pm Tuesday, January 12, 2016 Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. J.C. Lewis and Bro. Charles Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Jackson Cemetery in Joaquin. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5pm until 7pm at Mangum Funeral Home.

She was born April 3, 1915 in Shelby County to Ernest and Alice (Stephens) Owens. She was a member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Joaquin.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Alice (Stephens) Owens, husband, Vernon Swan, Great Grandson, Dalton Williams and Brothers & Sisters; Ralph Owens, Mildred McCrary, Billy Owens, Ella Mae McDaniel, Olga Swan, Tommie Love and Richard Owens.

Funeral services for Mrs. Annie R. May Rowe, 88 of Houston, Texas will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Old Center Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5-8:00 p.m. Tuesday night at Hawthorns. Mrs. Rowe was called home January 7, 2016 in Houston, Texas.

Ann’s life journey began November 30, 1927. She was born to the marriage of Manual and Annie O’Rear May of Joaquin, Texas. Ann was a lifelong cosmetologist working in a small salon in Tenaha, Texas, later moving to Vidor, where she owned her own beauty salon on Tannahill Street. It was there she became a teacher of cosmetology. She taught three years at Vidor High School, then Orangefield, and then to Cedar Hill, in the Garland, Texas area. Ann retired from Panola College after 16 years, ending a cosmetology career spanning five decades.

The years following, Ann owned and operated two dress shops in Center and Carthage. She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W., working on many fundraising events. Ann’s true love was her children, grandchildren, great and great-great grands. She loved to cook, was a wonderful seamstress and loved spending time with family and friends. Loved by her family, she will be missed greatly. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Floyd May and a son, Kenneth H. Rowe.

Dewey Raymond Bradley, 84, of Joaquin, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2016, in Center.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2016, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with Bro. Joe Walker officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Johnson Cemetery in Joaquin.

Mr. Bradley was born February 2, 1931, in Warren, Arkansas, to Thomas Asmon Bradley and Claudia Williams Bradley. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Bradley was a Deacon at Logansport Missionary Baptist Church. He loved to garden, but above all, he loved God and his family.

Randall Wright Smith, 78, passed away Sunday morning, December 27, 2015, in the Twin Lakes Care Center in San Augustine, Texas. Randall was born in Hemphill, Texas in the Fairdale Community, to William Frank and Emily Nola Mitchell Smith. He was a retired maintenance worker for Temple Inland. Randall loved to hunt and fish. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years Carolyn Faye Smith of Bronson, his sons: Randy Smith and wife Mary of Houston, Jerry Lyle Huffman Jr. and Sally of Stafford, Texas, and John Lance Huffman of Houston, his daughter Joy Lynn Reavis and husband Philip of Kansas, his sisters: Jerri Fuller and husband Keith of Longview, and Donette Vines of Hemphill, his 3 grandchildren: Aleshia Huffman Wimpee and husband Matt, Jamie Reavis, and Joanna Reavis, and his great grandchild Max Wimpee.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jewel Lee Turner, 98, of Timpson, Texas will be Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 1pm. Services will be help at the Antioch Baptist Church. Rev George Grace will be officiating. Mrs. Turner died Monday December 28, 2015 at Oak Manor Nursing Center in Nacogdoches, Texas following a brief illness.

Mrs Turner is survived by friends & family.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Antioch Baptist Church from 12-noon to 1:00pm.

Elmer Mathews, 81, of Joaquin, passed away Friday, December 25, 2015 in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 28, 2015 at Center Christian Fellowship with Bro. David Long and Bro. Don Murphree officiating. Interment will follow at Joaquin Cemetery in Joaquin.

Mr. Mathews was born September 19, 1934, in Joaquin to Andrew R. Mathews and Florence MaeDell Taylor. Mr. Mathews spent his life as a pastor, teacher, principal, and Juvenile Probation Officer. Mr. Mathews retired after 37 years of teaching with 32 years of that serving as principle at Fellowship Elementary School. He also was a teacher at Texas A&M fire school for 18 years. After a brief retirement of 2 hours, he quickly took the job as Shelby County Juvenile Probation Officer. He was a founding member of the Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department in 1973. He served the Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department as Chief from 1977-1987 and then again 1993-2000 while also serving as a training officer and chaplain. Mr. Mathews was a pastor for 55 years with 43 of those years pastoring at Good Hope Baptist Church and also was a pastor at Old Center Baptist Church. Mr. Mathews was a long time Joaquin football fan and rarely missed a game. Mr. Mathews loved to fish and camp and most of all spending time with his family.

Eula Mae Long, 92, of Center, passed away Monday, December 14, 2015 in Center.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Watson & Sons Chapel with Rev. Gordon Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow in the Strong cemetery in Huxley.

Ms. Long was born July 26, 1923 in Shelby County, Texas to Clayton Vaughn and Annie McDonald Vaughn.
She was a homemaker, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was a member of Smyrna Missionary Baptist Church.

Edward Marion "Shep" Shepherd, 93, died on December 10th, 2015 in Lufkin, Texas. Funeral services are planned for 2:00pm on Sunday, December 13th, 2015 at the First Baptist Church, Timpson. Visitation will be Sunday Dec 13, 2015 at 1pm.

Shepherd was born on May 23, 1922 in the New Prospect Community in Shelby County, Texas, the only child to Richard Lee Shepherd and Willie Ramsey Shepherd. He grew up on the family farm and attended the Buena Vista School. In 1939, he graduated from Timpson High School. For a year after graduation, he worked at Bussey's Drug Store before starting classes at Stephen F. Austin College in Nacogdoches.

War interrupted college. Shepherd was called into the service in 1943, serving in several assignments, before being discharged in 1946 with the rank of Sergeant.

After he left the Army, he returned to his studies at Stephen F. Austin, completing his degree in accounting 1947. He was one of the first three graduates to obtain a BBA in accounting from Stephen F. Austin University. In honor of this achievement, the University and College of Business established The Marion Shepherd Outstanding Principles Student Award.

In July 1947, he began his career with Sun Oil Company in Beaumont, Texas. His work with the company would take him to Philadelphia in 1965, where he served as the comptroller of Sun Pipe Line Company and manager of Transportation Financial Administration. Sun Company merged with Sunray DX in 1970, which took him to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he served as comptroller-treasurer. He worked for Sun Pipe Line Company until he retired in 1983. He returned to Timpson in 1992.

Shepherd married Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Hutcherson on August 29, 1947. The couple had two sons, George Edward Shepherd and Richard Croom Shepherd. Both sons were born in Beaumont and lived in both Philadelphia and Tulsa. George and Richard followed their father's exampled and served in the military.

Faith was an important part of Shepherd's life. His favorite Bible verse was Isaiah 41:10: "Fear not, I am with you; be not dismayed, I am your God. I will strengthen you, and help you, and uphold you with my right hand of justice." While living in Beaumont, he was ordained a deacon. When the family moved to Tulsa, he was active in the First Baptist Church, and after returning to Timpson, he served on the board at the First Baptist Church.

Work and faith weren't the only things that defined him. He understood civic responsibility and served as a city councilor in Timpson for one term. He knew the value of family. He traveled across the country to see his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time in the outdoors with his sons and grandsons.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

She met the love of her life, Jimmy Glenn Fausett, and they were married on December 18, 1953. Mrs. Fausett worked in banking for forty years, having worked first at First National Bank and then Farmers State Bank. She was an active member New Hope Congregational Methodist Church. She was known for her Texas Trash and pies. Mrs. Fausett enjoyed weekly games with her card playing buddies.

Ms. Taylor was born February 29, 1932, in Shelby County, Texas to Johnnie Henry Edison and Bonnie Lucille Black Edison. She was a former employee of Payne & Payne in Center, where she worked as a sales clerk for twenty years. Ms. Taylor was an ordained Methodist minister and very involved in the activities of her church, New Hope Methodist Church, especially the children’s ministries. She was an avid supporter of a number of missionaries in many different countries.

Sally Jo Philbrick Smith, 75, of Center, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, October 22, 2015.

Mrs. Smith was born July 26, 1940, in Dallas, to Charles Baxter Philbrick and Thelma Jewel Cunningham Philbrick. She graduated from Sunset high school in Dallas Texas, class of 1958. She received an undergraduate degree in education from Howard Payne University and a graduate degree in Special Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. She was a homemaker, mother and teacher.

She was active in ministries to the hearing impaired early in her life, even interpreting at a Billy Graham crusade in Dallas. She was a gifted teacher of God’s word, teaching: Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Backyard Bible Clubs, Student ministry, The Esther class at First Baptist Center, and several years of Lay Renewals, Prayer Life, Master Life, Joy Seekers conferences, studies by Beth Moore and Experiencing God (for which she served in the pilot program during the writing of the original workbook).

Her life’s mission was to share Jesus with others and teach them how to know God intimately. This took her on mission trips to Korea, Russia, Ukraine, Switzerland, Sweden, Honduras, Mexico and all over the United States. Everywhere she went became a mission field. Even while in the hospital she would tell everyone she met about the Jesus who kept her smiling through the worst of circumstances. Even in her illness she continued sharing Christ through a series of devotional books she wrote (entitled “Come Alone with Me”) recounting the activity of God in her life. In 2011 she began packing Samaritan’s Purse Christmas boxes for children in the 3rd world. She purchased the toys and goodies that would fill the boxes throughout the year, writing a personal note to each child and praying over each box. That first year she packed 20 boxes…The following year 61…then 503, 1250 and despite a late start and an early finish, she put together 630 boxes this year.

To the very end she never stopped working to build the Kingdom of God.

Emilye Hope Adams, 8 months old, of Bridge City, Texas, passed away on October 19, 2015, in Orange.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 24, 2015, at Little Cypress Baptist Church in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend David Turner. A graveside service and burial will be held at 4:30 p.m. at Shelbyville Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, at Little Cypress Baptist Church.

Born in Nacogdoches, Texas, on February 21, 2015, she was the daughter of Tyler Lawayne Adams and Jacklyn Danielle Adams. Emilye was a laid back baby who loved to play with her crackle books. She enjoyed squealing, making funny noises and faces, and playing and irritating her twin sister, Brooklyn. She was so loved by many and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her parents; her twin sister Brooklyn Faith Adams; great-grandparents, Jack and Billye Bradberry, Gene and Charlene Berry, Jesse and Loretta Simmons, and James Adams; grandparents, Billy and Reatha Bradberry, and Kim and William Adams; aunts and uncles, Jessica Bradberry and significant other Teague Kowalski, Samantha and Kyle Steptoe, and Jace Bradberry and significant other Reece Beard; cousins, Easton and Anistyn Steptoe, Ruger McMahon, and numerous other cousins, friends, and extended family.

Mildred I. Williamson, 87, of Baytown passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2015 in Houston. She was born September 29, 1928 in Timpson to her late parents, Albert Porter Nelson and Lovie Crump Nelson. She was a 1947 graduate of Timpson High School.

Mrs. Williamson, better known to her loved ones as Nanny, had lived in Baytown for the last 61 years, was a member of Second Baptist Church and the Lake BMPW and was a retired Head Teller from Citizens bank with nearly 40 years of service. She enjoyed following the Houston Astros, yardwork, stained glass and reading. She was devoted to her family, acting as a short order cook, baker, nurse, cheerleader and friend to her children and many grandchildren. She loved each child and grandchild for exactly who they were and for that she was loved deeply in return. Her loss will be felt by many in many different ways but she will be remembered in every bite of chocolate sheet cake, every birthday song sung, and every pot of homemade chicken and dumplins'.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Harold Lynn Williamson. Survivors include children, Tommy Williamson and wife Linda, and Terry Williamson and wife Naomi all of Houston, Patti Carhart of Shoreacres, Donald Motley and wife Becky of Trinity, and Paula Widner and husband Michael of Cove; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 12, 2015 at Navarre Funeral Home. Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at the funeral home with Rev. Mark Stafford officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens.

Inez Neilson Davis, 89, of Center, Texas passed away on October 17, 2015 in Carthage, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Center, Texas on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 1:30 pm with Reverend Karen Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Center, Texas. Visitation will be on Monday, October 19, 2015 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home from 5-7 pm.

Inez was born in McKinney, Texas to the late H.H. Neilson, Sr. and Mavet Thomas Neilson on February 20, 1926. She graduated from McKinney High School in 1943 and from Southern Methodist University in 1946 with degrees in Spanish and Psychology. She was also an active member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.

Inez put her servant’s heart into practice from a very young age, and she would continue to use her God-given gifts and time to the benefit of others her entire life. She used her love of singing and dancing to help plan events and dances for returning soldiers through the U.S.O. in McKinnney following World War II.

It was a blind date, arranged by her SMU roommate, which introduced Inez to her own soldier, W.I. Davis, Jr. She and W.I. were engaged to be married in 1946, with their wedding the following year on April 5 in McKinney, Texas. Upon marriage, the couple moved to Center, Texas to start their life together, putting down roots that would spread all across East Texas.

Throughout her life, Inez lent her support to the First United Methodist Church of Center. There, she used her musical talents as a member and director of the Center First United Methodist Church Choir. She recognized the importance of practicing a strong faith, becoming an active member of the United Methodist Women. Along with Doris Parker and other members, she initiated a local nursing home ministry that continues to this day, hosting monthly birthday celebrations for the residents.

Inez and W.I. knew the value of a Christian household, and wanted to help provide an opportunity for the same Christian home environment to Texas orphans and foster children as they gave their own family. Together, Inez and W.I. supported the Methodist Children’s Home, regularly participating in Wrangler meetings for the Boys’ Ranch.

To say that Inez enjoyed fellowship with her family and community would be an understatement. She had an indescribable way of making everyone she met feel comfortable, welcomed, loved, and like an immediate addition to her family. She exuded grace, selflessness, hospitality, and impeccable southern charm to all she met. Inez possessed incredible wisdom, which she earned through an earnest and disciplined study of God’s word. Instead of using wise words, more often than not she led by example. She showed her faith through her actions, her warm smile that extended through her clear blue eyes, and her unwavering presence at all of her church ministries. The love that the Lord poured out on her she gave unselfishly to each person she encountered.

Inez shared her musical talents with the Center Music Study Club, and was a life member of the National Federation of Music Study Clubs. Inez enjoyed regularly attending state and national music club conventions. She was a charter member of the Eta Rho chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority in Center.

Mindful of the family legacy passed on to her, Inez joined the Nacogdoches chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She went on to leave her legacy to younger generations who look up to her, family and community alike.

Inez learned early on one of life’s most important lessons. Her life was not without illness, sorrow, or challenges, but when these trials came she did not hesitate to trust in God’s strong foundation. She continued to get up, get dressed, sing God’s praises, and greet everyone with her warm, gracious smile; a smile from the heart, and from her solid faith in God that is forever imprinted in all of our hearts.

Inez is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Neilson and Diana Ashby Davis; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Davis Griffin and Guy Griffin; grandson, Patrick Griffin and wife, Kasey; granddaughter, Kelly Griffin Wahl and husband, Wesley; grandchildren, Shannon Grammer and Larry Shoults; great-grandsons, Justin and Jason Bobbitt, numerous other relatives, and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.I. Davis, Jr. and brother, Horace Neilson, Jr.

Mary Laverne Foster, 88, of Hallsville, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015 in Hallsville. She was born in Timpson, Texas on October 28, 1926 the daughter of Bluch and Ophelia Hayes. Graveside funeral services will be Monday, October 19, 2015 at 3:00 PM at Woodlawn Cemetery in Timpson.

Mary was raised in Timpson and graduated from Timpson High School in 1944. After graduation she moved to Houston and married Herschel Foster in 1958. Mary was full of energy as she was always going and doing something. Some of her time was spent doing the things she loved: reading, gardening, painting and traveling. She was always to go to person when you needed to know something. She knew a little about a lot of things. When her grandchildren and then great grandchildren came along, they were the apples of her eye. She sure did know how to spoil them.

She is survived by her daughter: Sharron Haden and her husband J.B. of Hallsville; sister: Sherel Oleta Skinner of Houston; grandchildren: Paul Chipman and Carmen Johnson; great grandchildren: Angel Flanagan, Ariel Chipman, Chelsea Haden, Alyssa Chipman, Blake Haden, and Cale Chipman; and by two great-great grandchildren: Ellayna Haden and Sadie Kay Stone. Mary is also survived by a host of other extended family and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Bluch and Ophelia Hayes, her husband Herschel Foster, daughter: Susan Oleta Foster, brother: Charles Hayes and by two great grandchildren: Chris Chipman, Jr. and Riley Hopkins.

Robert Hilton Adams, Sr beloved father, brother and uncle passed away peacefully Sunday, October 11, 2015. He was 73.

He was born on December 4, 1941 to the parents of Robert Carroll Adams and Pearl Hughes Adams in Center, Texas. As the youngest child of four Robert was given the nickname "Baby Joe" which stuck with him throughout his life.

Robert "Baby Joe" was a member of the International Long Shoremans Association for over 30 years and was employed by Ceres Gulf prior to his retirement.

Robert "Baby Joe" was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Carroll Adams and Pearl Hughes Adams and two brothers, Franklin Carroll Adams and Walter Harold Adams.

Robert "Baby Joe" is survived by his two sons Robert Hilton Adams Jr and Tim Adams Riddell (Diana), two grandchildren; Granddaughter Peightyn Brenley Adams and Grandson Tim Riddell Jr., his brother and sister-in-law Jack and Mary Ann Adams, sister-in-law Shelby Adams (Franklin's widow) and a host of nieces and nephews who will forever cherish the memory of "Baby Joe."

Carol Ann Seley Shofner, a much loved community member, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away on September 29, 2015. She was seventy-eight.

Born on August 31, 1937 in Los Angeles, Carol was the firstborn child of James Harold Seley and Alice Colwell Seley. The family moved to San Marino when she was three and Carol was a San Marino resident for the rest of her life. She attended Valentine Elementary and Huntington Middle School before enrolling in Westridge School in the 9th grade.

Following her Westridge graduation in 1955, Carol attended USC where she became a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She graduated in 1959 having earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

While Carol enjoyed the beach, reading, music, theater and sports, her greatest joy came from her loving relationships with her family and friends. One of her earliest passions was thoroughbred racing and she raised and raced horses for most of her life. Her parents co-owned the Los Angeles Rams for more than a decade following the team’s move to LA from Cleveland and Carol was a devoted football fan. Though he played for the Rams from 1957 through 1960, she did not begin dating her future husband, NFL wide receiver Del Shofner, until he was traded to the New York Giants. They met again when a mutual friend asked Del to tour Carol and a close friend around New York City. The couple was married in 1963 and maintained homes on both coasts until Del retired from football at the end of the 1967 season. Carol was active in many local charities including the Bishop Gooden Home, National Charity League San Marino Area Chapter, the San Marino PTA and the Trojan League.

Carol is survived by her husband Del, her daughters Laurie Corwin and Stacey Gates (Andrew), her son David, five grandchildren – Madison, Alex and Shea Corwin, Emily and Jacob Gates, her brother Jim Seley, and a large extended family.

A memorial service for Carol was held Friday, October 9 at 1:30 pm at The Wee Kirk o’ the Heather at Forest Lawn in Glendale.

Very early in the morning of October 8, 2015, Malcolm Weaver passed away peacefully of natural causes. He was 97 years old. He was being visited and cared for by his daughter, Mary Crain, and son, Mark Weaver.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, October 11, 2015, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Center, Texas. A Military Honors graveside service will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of VFW Post 8904.

Malcolm was born on June 5, 1918 in Center, Texas as the eldest son of Marion and Stella Weaver. Center was his beloved hometown and lifelong residence.

Malcolm was considered a pillar of the community as a local businessman and entrepreneur at Weaver Brothers Lumber Company and Town & Country Real Estate. Known to many as a wise counselor and advisor, he regularly helped many people with ideas, problems and life issues. Many a time, people would just come by his office at Town & Country, ask if they could just bend his ear for a few minutes or have a cup of coffee. He was a man full of sagely wisdom.

He served with distinction as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army in World War II and was involved in the European Theatre of Conflict. He was in the Sigma Chi Fraternity at the University of Texas before volunteering to serve in the war effort.

He met his beloved wife Connie during WWII in 1945 and a year later they married in 1946. They were happily married for 60 years until her death in 2006.

He lived on the land and house that he and Connie acquired and built in 1956 and he enjoyed raising cattle and riding horseback.

An amateur historian, Malcolm enjoyed learning and gaining understanding of the history of Center, Shelby County, Texas and our great nation. You can see even today at his offices at Town & Country his appreciation of history and its influence on how we live and work today.

Malcolm was President of Center Rotary Club from 1953 until 1954, he was President of Center Chamber of Commerce from 1957 until 1958, President of Shelby County Historical Society from 1962 until 1965, and President of Piney Woods Board of Realtors in 1970. He also served as 1st President of Gateway to Texas Charter, Sons of The Republic of Texas from 1995 until 1996.

Another of Malcolm’s loves was his involvement at Center Christian Church. He was an active participant there, serving as an Elder and on the Board of Directors.

He was on the Farmers State Bank Board of Directors for over 50 years, helping that financial institution grow and excel to become one of the premier banks in East Texas. He also served as the Director of the Texas Chapter of Realtors Land Institute.

He was a masterful storyteller often regaling all of us with a true story told with his trademark sense of humor and twinkle in his eye. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family.

Malcolm was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Weaver; brother, Martin Weaver and sister-in-law, Joy Weaver. He is survived by a daughter, Mary Crain and husband Tom Crain, of Corpus Christi, and a son, Mark Weaver and wife Mary Jean Weaver, of Woodland Park, Colorado. Wanda Forbis, 86, of Lufkin, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at her residence.

Bro. Calvin Permenter passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2015 in Mt. Pleasant. Born in 1940 to Eldredge & Mildred Permenter and raised in Shelby County, Texas.

Calvin surrendered to the ministry at the age of 16 and attended Texas Baptist Institute and Seminary, earning his Master of Divinity degree. After fifty years of faithful service in the ministry, Bro. Permenter was awarded an honorary doctorate from TBI.

In 1961, Calvin married Vivian Gordon and they raised three daughters. In 1996, Calvin married Myra Jean, thereby adding two sons and two daughters to the family.

After retiring from the ministry, Bro. Calvin enjoyed gardening, shelling peas and spending time with family.

Jerry Donald Hammers, 66, of Timpson, Texas passed away on Friday October 2, 2015 in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was born on April 7, 1949, in Center, Texas, the son of the late Emrie Hammers and Sylvia Malke. Visitation will be Sunday October 4, 2015, 5-7 PM at Taylor Funeral Home in Timpson, Texas. Services will be held on October 5, 2015 at 10AM at Taylor Funeral Home, with Bro. Larry Stegall officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Born and raised in Shelby County, Jerry graduated Timpson High School Class of 1967. He then served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After serving his military time Jerry went to work for Union Pacific Railroad and worked for over 40 years before retiring. Jerry was a very social person; he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially if his children or grandchildren were involved. He loved living on the lake, growing flowers, and gardening. Spending time outdoors was a favorite for Jerry.

Jerry was a member of the American Legion Post #90 in Timpson, Texas. He was a Master Mason Timpson Lodge #437.

On August 27th 2015 at 6 am Priscilla Lynee Shoop died at 65 years young peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born January 18, 1950 in Joliet Illinois.

Priscilla was a beloved woman of God, daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all. She had a hard fight with cancer since 2009 and never had a moment of fear during her treatments. During her cancer battle she continued to serve faithfully in her community at The Denton Freedom House, First Rock Baptist.

She is survived by her husband Forrest (Butch) Shoop of 31 years, 2 son’s Chance and wife Sherri Shoop of Center TX, Brian and wife Clavel Rotolo of Aubrey TX, 2 daughter’s Christy and husband JJ Croix of El Campo TX, Jenny and husband Bud Cain of Nacogdoches TX, 3 sister’s Susan Papesh of New Lenox Il, Janet Kish of Azel TX, Joan Marie Shepard of Pontiac Il, and 8 grandchildren Matt and Emily Shoop, Lane Clifton, Floyd and Easton Cain, Griffen, Marin, and Jillian Croix, and many many friends.

Pearry Lee Green, 82 of Tucson, Arizona, passed away Thursday morning August 20, 2015. Viewing will be held Saturday, August 29, 2015 from 1pm until 6pm at East Lawn Palms Mortuary on 5801 E. Grand Road, Tucson, AZ. Funeral service will be Sunday, August 30, at 2:30pm at Christ Community Church, 7801 E. Kenyon Dr. Tucson, AZ. Interment, family only, at East Lawn Palms Mortuary following service.

Pearry Lee Green was born in Many, Louisiana on July 1, 1933. The son of Pearry Olyn and Mae Mary (Samples) Green. Pearry was a resident of Tucson for over 50 years. Pearry is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Janice; his children, Karen Greene-Millard, Evelyn “Janet” Jackson, Tina Giberti; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and his older sister Sammie Allen, his Brother-in-law Bro. Neil Johnson as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Pearry was the son of a man who was in the logging business and later turned drilling superintendent / oil field troubleshooter, aka a wildcatter. His dad’s work required him to relocate his family often; in fact the family lived in 35 different houses before Pearry started school and he changed schools 48 times during his childhood.

In 1949, Pearry’s family finally settled in Beaumont, Texas USA where his father had become Pastor of the small Emanuel Gospel Church and in the same year while still a teenager, Pearry received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost. Shortly thereafter, his family went to see William Marrion Branham who was conducting Divine healing meetings in Houston, Texas. Only 16 at the time, this encounter with Reverend Branham would change the course of his life.

In 1952 he attended Southwestern Bible Institute in Waxahachie, Texas. He became pastor of the same church his dad was overseer of. In 1965 William Branham asked him to start a church in Tucson. Pearry was 32 years old when he and his family moved to Tucson, Arizona and started Tucson Tabernacle, where he pastored for nearly 50 years.

Over the course of his ministry he traveled the globe many times, visiting over 100 countries. He was a well-known speaker, evangelist, and missionary. He was also a successful businessman. In his earlier years he owned and operated several travel agencies; and then later, notably as the owner of Shamrock Contracting, a gymnasium hardwood flooring specialist.

Pearry’s life desire was to see the lost saved. He looked at every situation as an opportunity to share the Gospel, and at every individual as a potential sinner to be saved. Below is an *account of Pearry’s Bible School classmate and Rock-n-Roll Hall of Famer Jerry Lee Lewis;

“Pearry Lee Green, who’d almost gotten kicked out of Bible College when Jerry Lee rocked Waxahachie, never gave up his conviction that his piano-playing friend was born to bring people to the Lord. In 1970, he was at a conference of ministers called the Full Gospel Businessmen’s International in Sydney, Australia, when he learned that Jerry Lee was in town. Jerry Lee was drinking that night, but he asked Pearry Lee to sit on the piano bench with him in front of a well-lubricated, rowdy auditorium crowd of three thousand people. “You’re going to be surprised,” he told the crowd, “but I was going to be a preacher.” He told the crowd of the “singspiration” and how the organized church refused to accept his gift. Then he sang a hymn, an old one from his childhood. The rowdy crowd grew quiet.

“I’m going to tell you something, he had every kid in that place crying,” said Pearry. “I don’t think in my life I’ve ever seen that many young people with tears in their eyes. Jerry Lee’s voice just melted their hearts. If I’d been preaching, I’d have given an invitation for salvation.”

In the streets, behind a pulpit, on the phone, through his best-selling book The Acts of a Prophet, or sitting on a piano bench next to a backslidden rock star, Pearry Green’s singular desire was to see the lost of his generation saved by Jesus Christ.

Bro. Green went to his final reward Thursday morning August 20, 2015 between 4 and 5 AM. The word of God says it, Bro Green preached it and we BELIEVE it….We Will See Him A !!!!

Raymond M. Forbis, 91, of Milam, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Hemphill Care Center in Hemphill.

He was born October 1, 1923 in Center, Texas to William Levie and Lula Lavenia (Strong) Forbis. He graduated from high school in Crockett. He served in the US Army during WWII where he fought under General Patton. He lived in Jacinto City, Texas where he raised his family. In his lifetime he has helped build several churches. He worked for the City of Galena Park & Galena Park Motors where he was an mechanic. He also worked for Ideal Cement Co in Galena Park. Even after retirement he continued to work for the city of Galena Park. He and his wife moved to Milam in 1986. He was a member of the VFW Post #10351 in Hemphill. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Milam where he served as deacon.

Delbert Jack Palmer, 96, of Center, passed away in the company of family and friends on Sunday, August 16, 2015, in Nacogdoches.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 18, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Mangum Funeral Home.

He was born March 25, 1919, in Shelby County to William James and Camilla Palmer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Center and attended Center High School. He served in the United States Army Air Corp with the Combat Crew #333 WWAAF, Walla Walla, WA. For several years, he worked for John G. Harris Hardware. Then Palmer Refrigeration was formed, and he worked there until the business was sold. After Palmer Refrigeration, he worked for E.L. Bruce Company until he retired. He enjoyed farming and visiting his friends and relatives. He was a loving husband and father, and friend to many. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy and delight of his life. He enjoyed driving to visit his nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors, and was always the life of the party. He remained very active until just a few weeks ago. He was very special to all and will be dearly missed.

Helen Frances Gary Hudson, 94, of Timpson, Texas, went to be with the Lord on August 15, 2015, in Garrison, Texas. She was born on April 13, 1921 to Ernest and Diamond Spradley Gary in Timpson, Texas. Services will be held at Timpson Missionary Baptist Church at 11 AM. Monday August 17, 2015 with Bro. Justin Coburn officiating. Visitation will be held Monday August 17, 2015 from 10 AM until 11 AM Interment will follow in Timpson Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

She grew up in Timpson in a loving family with her five brothers and three sisters. She married Ossie Hudson, September 18, 1937 and was blessed with 59 years of marriage. They began their married life in Timpson and were faithful members of Timpson Missionary Baptist Church. They loved singing gospel music and formed a quartet and attended every Sunday afternoon singing broadcast on KDET out of Center.

In 1956, the family moved to Houston and joined Landmark Missionary Baptist Church where she was the choir director for many years. They retired in 1972 and returned to family roots in Timpson and once again joined Timpson Missionary Baptist Church. She never lost her life-long love of singing praises to the Lord and sang many specials at church. Her favorite song was “One Day At A Time” and that's how she lived her life. She was a loving caregiver and she enjoyed gardening, cooking and fellowship with family and friends. The Bible says a Godly woman is worthy of honor. As her family, we want to honor her as the loving Godly woman she was and will always be in our hearts. She was a woman who loved God, was loved by God, and showed God's love to others. She gave us a priceless gift – herself.

We will treasure the precious memories of her sweet smile, her kindness, her warmth, her energy and her love for life, family and friends. She leaves us with the knowledge that we were truly loved and we know that she loved the Lord.

Jackie Lee Fountain, 62, of Joaquin, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015 at his residence.

Service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be Monday, August 3, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mangum Funeral Home. Cremation to follow.

He was born August 15, 1952 in Center to Homer Lafayette “Jack” Fountain, Sr. and Rachel (Brown) Fountain. He owned and operated Fountain Plumbing for over 30 years. He was a loving husband, loved his children and grandchildren, “the best Poppa ever”. He was an avid drag racer. He loved to laugh & his laugh was infectious. He collected Milwaukee everything. He was so loving & giving.

He is preceded in death by his Parents, Homer “Jack” and Rachel Fountain, Wife, Jana (Jones) Fountain, Brother, Homer Fountain, Jr. and Mother-in-law, Maxine Childress.
