Funeral service for Charles Samuel Rhodes, 88, will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, July 11, 2022 at Timpson Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Levi Cohorst and Bro. Joe Walker officiating.

Interment will follow at Timpson Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 1:00pm.

Charlie was born on June 14, 1934, the son of Dan and Sarah Rhodes. He grew up in the small community of Buena Vista in Shelby County and attended Timpson High School. Charlie spent his childhood being taught the importance of God and family. He was a wonderful example of a son, husband, father and grandfather. He taught his family the same values as they grew into adults and made special time to spend with the grandchildren so they would learn the same things.

Charlie was very proud of his children and their families and overjoyed to spend every chance he had with them.

As a young man, Charlie learned to work cows and rebuild tractors. His love of being on the farm became his livelihood and he enjoyed his daily life doing exactly what he wanted to do. His beloved community of Buena Vista was of utmost importance to him. He was a master historian and made sure to pass on the history of the community and could answer most any question about the area or the people within. He was also instrumental in acquiring signs marking the location. He made it a priority to visit the residents of Buena Vista as well as old friends and those in nursing homes or unfortunate enough to not be able to get out.

Charlie was also very devoted to his church and was one of the first members of Timpson Missionary Baptist Church, of which he helped build alongside his dad. He loved summertime because it brought some of his favorite foods including vine ripe tomatoes. He would go to Chris’ and help himself to all the veggies he could pick and Debbie would keep him stocked on fresh turnip greens, corn and hot water cornbread! In his latter years, Charlie could be found visiting his friends at Cadell’s and the feed store.

His love of life and family, old fashioned values and complete devotion to Christ will forever live on in the hearts of everyone who ever had the blessing of knowing Charlie Rhodes.

Charlie is survived by:
His children:
Deborah Jordan and husband, Marvin of Tenaha
Rebecca Walker and husband, Tony of Joaquin

Rita Marie Albrecht Simpson Nesbitt, 85, of Center, Texas, passed away on July 3, 2022, in Nacogdoches, Texas. She was born on July 8, 1936, in Newald, Forest County, Wisconsin, to the late Edward W. Albrecht Sr. and Ann Ida Vallard Albrecht.

Rita calls the Seattle, Washington area hometown. She graduated from Lake Washington High School, Kirkland, Washington in 1954.  She enlisted in the US Air force in 1954, at Seattle, serving in the dental service and attaining rank of A/1C (sergeant) at Lackland AFB, San Antonio. She married Melvin Simpson in 1955 and divorced in 1975.

Her subsequent employment consisted of Boeing Airplane Company, Seattle, as a Research and Development librarian during the BOMARC missile development, which was the beginning of the NASA Space Program; employed at Corpus Christi Army Depot as military travel and passport agent, and technical writer; Corpus Christi Police Department as secretary; Flour Bluff ISD as librarian’s assistant.  When possible, she attended colleges in Waco, Lake Charles, and Corpus Christi.

She married. In 1989, the Nesbitts moved from Corpus Christi to Trinity, where she became active in many civic affairs, such as Friends of the Library, Community Fair, Historical Society, Garden Club, Huntsville Raven’s Quill Writer’s Group, Trinity Writer’s Critique Group; and a Charter founding member of Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry. In 1995 she was ordained a Presbyterian Lay-Minister and served as supply preacher to Presbyterian churches in Trinity, Livingston, Crockett, Tomball, and Alabama-Coushatta Indian Church. She has led a number of non-denominational Bible Studies in her home. She was a member of many local churches, and was well known for refusal to compromise on teachings that did not measure up to the Scripture. She was a Fourth Day member of Houston North Emmaus Community’s Walk to Emmaus.

Her hobbies included photography, home decorating, designing, and sewing her own clothes until her right hand became partially paralyzed. Reading, studying Bible history and Bible archeology, and writing Christian fiction about the Civil War era were her latest interests.

She felt her greatest disappointment in her private life was giving up a dream of commercial piloting because of her petite stature, not to mention her “Dysfunctional” depth perception. “Knowing where to find the ground is somewhat important in landing,” she would laughingly explain. But her discovery late in life of her creative writing talent made up for it. She felt her greatest joy was using her talents and gifts to serve her Lord Jesus Christ. She often said her high point in life was preaching and teaching Bible Studies. There were few people she did not like and had many friends in all races and walks of life.  She said her love and compassion came from having first-hand knowledge of prejudice because of her Native American Indian blood in an area of Wisconsin where prejudice, anti-Semitism and Nazism ran high.  She was taught early in life not to mention her Pottawatomie and Jewish relatives, but she was proud of them, and always hope to track them down.

Rita is survived by:
Her son, Aubrey Lee Simpson and wife Eva Dianne of Center

Granddaughter, Katheryn Scott of Leakey

Following high school graduation, he completed a bachelor’s degree at his beloved Texas Christian University (TCU) and his teaching certification at Stephen F. Later she became the Timpson High School special education aide where she retired after impacting many students’ lives. Everyone knew her as “Granny Sara”. She took such pride in helping mold and prepare the students for their future endeavors. Sara loved her time at THS and gained many grandchildren throughout her career.

Granny Sara was just that, everyone’s Granny. Sara loved being outside, working in her yard and most of all loved her family time. Her house was full of laughter and chatter on all holidays and holds many memories of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her favorite meal was not only breakfast, but she loved cooking it. She was known for some good home cooking as she fed many children that came through her doors. You never left Granny’s house hungry.

Little may know that Sara had one thing year-round in her home, a Christmas tree. She loved Christmas. The tree stayed lit with colorful lights, sentimental and homemade ornaments, pictures, complete with an angel on top. Every ornament held a special place in her heart. Her kitchen held her collection of roosters and a buffet full of pictures of her family. Pictures stacked so tight; you could barely see the ones behind. Her hall lined with more family portraits and patriotic décor to honor her one and only son, the late Wayne Hooker. Sara loved cards and signed every one with a drawn figure with outreached arms and “I love you this much”. She had the sweetest smile and contagious laughter.

Sara loved her time at Garrison Nursing Home, especially visiting the Country Store. She filled her room with prizes won from her many games of BINGO. The staff of Garrison Nursing Home touched her life, and she loved each and every one of them as her own. Sara’s favorite color was pink, and she loved butterflies. She always told her loved ones when she leaves this earthly home, and they see a butterfly to think of her. Sara will be deeply missed by family, friends and all who knew her.
