Darrell Dean Rhodes peacefully passed away Tuesday Nov. 14, 2023, at Medical Center hospital in Nacogdoches Tx. He went to be with his heavenly father and savior at 89 years old.

Funeral services will be held at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Silas Community, Timpson Tx. Saturday Nov. 18, 2023, at 12:45 p.m. Officiated by Reverend Fred Wilcox. Visitation is at the same location and date starting at 12:00 p.m. Taylor Funeral home of Timpson TX is providing the funeral arrangements. Flowers are welcome. Darrell was born January 21, 1934, in the Silas Community of Timpson, Texas. He was raised on the farm and attended Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at the age of 13. He attended school in Silas community and later transferred to Timpson graduating high school in 1950 at the age of 16. He served in the Texas National Guard. He was a lifelong member and deacon at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, and he served on the Mt. Olive Cemetery committee. He was a member of the Eastern Star and Masonic organizations. He worked a lifetime in the Pipeline industry that led him all over the United States.

Linda Sue Chimney King, 75 of Garrison, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2023. She was born on January 26, 1948, to the late Archie "Bub" Chimney and Jennie Mae Garrett Chimney, in Garrison, Texas.

Billy George Dickinson, 81, of Center, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2023, in Center.

Born October 5, 1942, in Henderson, Billy is the son of George Dickinson and Bertha Dickinson.  He loved watching his western movies. He was a member of First Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ.

Mildred (Vaughn) Dillard, 88, of Center, Texas passed away peacefully in Center, on November 10, 2023. She was born March 29, 1935, in Huxley, to Henry and Ella Alice (Snider) Vaughn.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Mangum Funeral Home at 11 a.m. with Bro. Larry Chandler officiating. Interment followed at White Rock Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Mangum Funeral Home on Monday, November 13, 2023, from 5-7 p.m. 

Mildred was born and raised in Shelby County. She married Mack Dillard in November of 1952. Their love and dedication to one another were apparent to all who knew them. They had three sons: Randy, Ronnie, and Donald.

Mildred was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She was happiest when she was with loved ones, whether it be her siblings, children, or grandchildren. As a little girl, Mildred was blonde headed, and was lovingly known as “Blondie” by her parents, siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews. Mildred’s bond with her siblings was one of her greatest treasures.

Her faith and belief in God was strong, and she lived according to that.

Born January 29, 1944, in Panola County, Vera is the daughter of George Davis Jr and James Vernie Lawhorn Davis.  She worked in the cafeteria at Center ISD for over 23 years.  She enjoyed her time at the Senior Citizen’s Center in Joaquin.  Vera loved her church family at Old Home Baptist Church.

Carroll Lee Mays passed away in Stonecreek Nursing home in San Augustine, Texas on November 7, 2023 at the age of 83. She was born July 29, 1940 in Buena Vista, Texas to Tommie and George Brown.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

She left behind her loving husband, Wayne Mays, of a marriage of 51 years. She lived several places including Fort Stocken, Dallas, Center, Joaquin, Teague, and Logansport. They had loving children, two hers and five his, and numerous grandchildren. She enjoyed being with her family, friends, and grandchildren.

They ran a sawmill, chicken houses, and worked shutdown as tool room lady in Tatum and Gulfport. She was an active Christian of the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed coffee on her porch, flowers, hummingbirds, Hallmark Channel, and loved to read. She was an Elvis Presley fan as well as Garth Brooks and George Strait.

Clarence Wayne “Spud” Fausett, 70, of Timpson, Texas, passed away on November 6, 2023, in Tyler, Texas. He was born on May 28, 1953, in Center, Texas, to the late Billy D. Fausett and Dorthy (Gilchrist) Fausett. 

Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Mangum Funeral Home, with Bro. Levi Cohorst officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 10AM at Mangum Funeral Home. 

Wayne “Spud” was raised in Shelby County. He graduated from Center High School in 1971. He married the love of his life, Janis, in 1992. They raised two children, Michael and Matt. Janis and Wayne spent over 25 wonderful years together before her passing in 2017. He worked many years as a mud engineer in the oilfield industry. Wayne was a very compassionate, kindhearted person. He was the kind person that never met a stranger. Always enjoyed visiting with those around. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved to fish, BBQ, and have crawfish boils. Wayne liked the Louisiana Cuisine. Wayne loved the Lord. He attended Timpson Missionary Baptist Church in Timpson.

Mark Edward Goolsby, 64, of Nacogdoches, Texas passed away at his home in Nacogdoches on October 26, 2023. Services will be held at Taylor Funeral Home, Timpson, Texas, Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. with Bro. Crispin Bradsher officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Timpson, Texas. 

Mark was born on August 3, 1959, in Nacogdoches, Texas to Lloyd Benjamin and Claudia (Blackburn) Goolsby. Mark graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 1978. He then attended Panola Junior College followed by Stephen F. Austin State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1982. Afterwards, Mark moved to Houston and was employed by the City of Houston as a chemist in the wastewater treatment and management department, retiring after 23 years.

Mark was a kind and gentle person who loved animals and people of all cultures. He loved to watch sports and you could always count on him for a quick pun or as a partner in dominoes or any other board game. 

Mark was a devout Christian. He received Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior as a young adult and faithfully attended several churches during his lifetime. He felt a special calling to missions.

Affectionately named “Maw” by her first grandson, her outgoing personality easily won over members of her community where she was adopted as “Maw” by many. She fought a long, hard battle to continue celebrating and supporting her grandchildren, which was the highlight of her life.

Lena Ellen Chambliss, age 83, of Chireno, Texas, passed away Monday, October 30, 2023, in Chireno, Texas. She was born August 19, 1940, in Shelby County, Texas, to parents Thomas and Viola (Fenley) Chambliss.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine, Texas. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Strong Cemetery in Huxley, Texas.

Retiring after many years as a teacher, Lena held a master’s degree in mathematics and was a former longtime resident of Virginia. Her love of teaching continued long after retirement as she assisted many family members in their educational pursuits.

Lena enjoyed working in her yard and found many hours of pleasure in reading as well as working puzzles, crosswords and jigsaws. She also loved traveling, taking many trips throughout the United States and around the world.

Nell Polley, 88, of Center, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023, in Lufkin.

A strong willed, faith-filled lady, Nell loved her family, friends, and Church. Nell shared good humor and a big smile with everyone she met. She could light up a room and always enjoyed telling a good joke. While at home, you could find Nell riding in her golf cart, working in the yard, tending to her dogs and beautiful flowers. She also enjoyed sitting on her back porch drinking tea while watching the birds and deer. She enjoyed going shopping and getting her nails done with her best friend Sue Russell and her daughter Charlotte. 

Nell adored time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved the Christmas season and would often begin shopping and decorating months in advance. Chevy Chase’s Christmas Vacation was her favorite movie and she loved watching it with family over and over again every Christmas. 

Nell was a lifelong member of The First United Methodist Church where she served on various committees.  In her early years she enjoyed going fishing and hunting with O.H. at the camp house and traveling to the valley to visit family.

Junior Lee Williams, 74 of Joaquin, passed away Sunday night, October 22, 2023 in Logansport, Louisiana. He was born in Joaquin (Ashton Hills) on April 13, 1949 to the late Andrew Lee Williams and Accie Williams. He grew up in Ashton Hill area. Junior graduated from Joaquin High School. Junior accepted Christ at an early age.

Funeral service is at 11am Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Bright Morning Star Baptist Church, Center, Texas. Visitation is 10am until 6pm on Friday, October 27, 2023 at Community Funeral Home Chapel, Center, Texas. Interment is at Carroll Cemetery, Shelbyville, Texas with Rev. James Earl Williams.

He married Josephine Dickerson and to this union four children was born. He was drafted into the United States Army, after his honorable discharge, he moved his family to Houston, Texas. He resided in Houston, Texas. He resided in Houston, Texas with his wife Josephine Williams and children.

Junior and his brothers started a business, “Williams Tree Services,” which he operated for over forty years.

He was a dedicated son, father, husband, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.

He is preceded in death by father, Andrew Lee Williams; mother, Accie Williams; sons, Tyson Price and Bobby Williams; and ten siblings.

Shirley Ruth Carter, 89, of Shelbyville, Texas, passed away on October 25, 2023, in Center, Texas. She was born on June 29, 1934, in Bebe, Texas, to the late Jesse Allen and Evelyn Ruth (McGinty) Allen.

Graveside service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Shelbyville Cemetery, Shelbyville, Texas.

Shirley Ruth grew up in Gonzales County. She graduated from high school and married the love of her life, Bruce Carter, and the two spent many wonderful years together before his passing in 1986.They raised three girls. Shirley Ruth loved listening to music. She enjoyed reading and spending precious time with her grandchildren. Shirley Ruth loved the Lord and served him throughout the years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Shelbyville.
