Jerry Dane Samford, 62, of Timpson, Texas, passed away on January 9, 2022, in Timpson, Texas. He was born on July 1, 1959, in Carthage, Texas, to Jimmy Samford and Lola Lanell Hendricks. A memorial service will be held at a 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Jerry Dane loved his family with all his heart. He enjoyed raising chickens. Jerry Dane rode in many trail rides when he was younger. He graduated to Harleys later in his life. He was known for giving you a hard time but he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Ada Louise Essery, 89, of Timpson, Texas, passed away on January 11, 2022, in Garland, Texas. She was born on June 13, 1932, in Center, Texas, to the late George Elzie and Susie Anna (Cotton) Hendricks.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Corinth Cemetery in Timpson, Texas, officiated by Bro. Carroll Jones.
Ada was the sweetest most generous and loving wife, mother, and granny and was loved by all that knew her. Ada was married to Billy Joe Essery on July 18, 1953. She was a good Christian woman and was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.

A Memorial Service honoring the life of John Ray Snider, 72, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 14, 2022 at Open Range Fellowship, 9950 US-80, Greenwood, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Dennis Aaron.
John Ray Snider was born April 4, 1949 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Elmer and Grace Snider and passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022 in Longview, Texas.
John graduated from Fair Park High School and was a member of the United States Navy Reserves. He worked as both a lineman and wireman and retired from General Motors. He married his loving wife of 31 years, Marsha, in 1990. John was a lifelong real cowboy. He loved the Lord and loved his family, friends, and others he met along the way. John had a one-of-a-kind personality and never met a stranger. He always knew how to make people feel welcomed and loved. He will be dearly missed.

Larry Crawford, 79, of Timpson, Texas, passed away on January 9, 2022, in Lufkin, Texas. He was born on January 3, 1943, in Carthage, Texas, to the late Royce and Joella (Hull) Crawford. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Timpson, Texas with Orval Miller officiating.
Larry was the unofficial “Mayor” of the Stockman Community. He loved his community and all who resided there. Larry worked as a lineman for SouthWestern Bell for 31 years before retirement. He loved his wife and sons and spent his life making sure they were taken care of. Larry was happy to spend his days outside riding around on his John Deere tractor and taking care of his garden. Larry would watch the same old Western movies over and over again. He also loved to ride the backroads with his friends and just live the country life. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Kenny Smith, 74, of Timpson, passed away Monday, December 20, 2021, in Waco.

Born April 14, 1947, Kenny is the son of Sarah Mills and Marcus Smith. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree and made a career in the insurance industry. Kenny enjoyed being outdoors, especially with his horses.

Jimmy Wayne Adams, 73, of Moores Hill, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2022. He was born July 7, 1948 in Center, Texas, son of the late Robert and Betty (Alford) Adams.
Jimmy was a member of the Hopewell Masonic Lodge, Shrine Club, Scottish Rite, Safari Club, NRA, and FFA. He was a world renowned hunter and enjoyed shooting. He was the Owner and President of Adams Cooling Towers.

For 13 years, Jason owned J&B Donut Factory in Center and and later founded Intelligent Concepts which later became Intelligent Computer Concepts. His hobbies included fishing, playing guitar, learning new music, and spending time with his family. Jason was a member of New Life Church in Center, where he was Praise and Worship Leader.

Jeri was born and raised in East Texas. She owned a café in Timpson for a time. Jeri was also an EMT for 28 years. She worked for many years until her retirement as a phlebotomist for local nursing homes. Jeri loved to watch the hummingbirds as they fought over the nectar. She was happy outdoors. Jeri enjoyed working in her flower beds and prided herself on how beautiful she kept them. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services for Phillip Lynn Walker, 67, of Logan, Texas will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Tenaha, Texas. Lynn Walker was born July 28, 1954 in Center, Texas. He went to be with the Lord Tuesday, January 4, 2022 peacefully at his Logan, Texas home. Lynn was one of four children born to the marriage of John Melgon and O.D. Juanita Baker Walker. He was schooled in Logansport, Louisiana graduating with the class of 1972. He graduated Panola College and attended Stephen F. Austin State University. He married Dolores Lynn Norris in 1976 and they celebrated 45 years of marriage and raised three children.
Mr. Walker worked as a cable repairman since 1975 for AT&T retiring after 30 plus years of service. Lynn was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Tenaha serving as deacon, Sunday school and VBS teacher. He loved spending time with family, sports, hunting and tending to his cattle.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Bruce Walker, Jr., sister, Thelma Bonita Ann Hanson; nephew, Steve Byron Walker, Jr., beloved in-laws, Bill and Juanita Norris; and brother-in-law, Bill Norris, Jr..

Wyman Earl Tompkins, age 84, of San Augustine, Texas, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at his residence.
Mr. Tompkins was born August 19, 1937, in Sabine County, Texas, to parents Hamp and Abbie (Harville) Tompkins. He grew up in the Geneva area and attended school in Hemphill. He was a longtime resident of San Augustine and worked a number of years at Noble & Company as marine mechanic. He was also a U.S. Army veteran.
Wyman had enjoyed fishing throughout his life. He served with the San Augustine Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of White Rock Baptist Church and Redland Masonic Lodge #3 in San Augustine.
He and Louise Wilburn, a Shelby County native, were married on May 12, 1957, and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage.

Kenneth Lee Campbell Sr., 80, of Timpson, passed away Sunday January 2, 2022, in Timpson.
Graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 6, 2021, at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center with eulogy by his valued friend and classmate, Jack Harris. Music will be led by longtime friend and neighbor, Rodney Golden.
Born March 1, 1941, Kenneth is the son of R.L. Campbell and Alma Harris Campbell. He was proud of the fact that he was born and raised in Center, a member of Center High School Class of 1959. On November 23, 1961, Kenneth married Jerri Lynn Hendricks. She preceded him in death December 26, 2011. Kenneth was a man of “many hats.” He started a trucking company with one truck and grew to several. Wanting to spend more time at home, he played a game of dominos with a friend. The winner made the choice to keep all trucks of both parties or sell out. He won and sold out.
In 1976, he started a lumber yard and became a builder. Today, there are many commercial properties and residential homes in the county which he built, financed, and/or owns.
He is currently married to Londa. They have been so blessed to enjoy the life and friends they hold so dear.
His final years have been devoted to raising cattle, hunting hogs, and watching the beautiful sunrises on the land he loved.

Roy Manning Crump Jr., 57, of Joaquin, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2022, in Joaquin.
Funeral service will be held Noon, Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at Sholar Cemetery in Shelby County.
Born March 2, 1964, Roy is the son of Roy Manning Crump Sr. and Joyce “Sally” Rutherford Crump. Growing up on the river was paradise to him. He truly loved crappie fishing and spending time with family. He was a member of Joaquin Class of 1982. An avid golfer, Roy was a member of Center Country Club, where over the years, he made many lifelong friends and memories.

Born January 19, 1969, in Converse, Louisiana, James is the son of Edna Marie Spears West and Charles William “Bill” West. He worked as a carpenter. His hobbies included fishing and woodwork.

Arnold Bert Gordon, 86, of Gig Harbor, Washington, passed away 15 December 2020 at his home. He was born 18 August 1934 to Arnold Ruel and Oneida Ramsey Gordon of Joaquin Texas. Bert grew up in Joaquin, was a standout athlete at Joaquin High School in multiple sports, and served in the US Army during 1956-1958 and again in 1961. He was a graduate of both JHS and Texas A&I College in Kingsville TX.
Bert worked nearly 50 years in oilfields around the globe, gaining particularly high reputation as one of the world's leading experts in offshore exploration drilling. More important, he was a loving and generous father, possessed a keen sense of humor, and provided a magnificent example for his sons, his family, and all who knew him. He is sorely missed.
Bert's cremains will be interred with a graveside service in Joaquin Cemetery in Joaquin Texas, at 11:00 a.m. on 15 January 2022.
