Eltroy Ayers, 75 of Houston, died on August 26, 2021, at his home in Houston, Texas. Eltroy Ayers was born to the late Mr. Mentroy and Mrs. Lee Dalia Ayers in Center, Texas on August 23, 1946.
Funeral service will be Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Triumph the Church and the Kingdom of God in Christ (908 Daniels Street Center, Texas) at 11am. Rev. Arthur Cloudy is the eulogist.

Ricky Wayne Davis, 63, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021, in Shelbyville.

Born April 17, 1958, Ricky is the son of Farrel Dean Davis Jr. and Erma Ilene Owens Davis. He worked as a master mechanic. Hobbies included water sports, anything to do with motorcycles, woodworking, and hunting. Ricky became a private pilot and also built and raced custom pulling sleds. He was a member of Spirit of Life United Pentecostal Church in Garrison, where he enjoyed serving Jesus by playing his harmonica, studying the Bible, and even sometimes preaching. Ricky was also known as a big comedian, loving to bring laughter to those around him.

Tammy Tatum was embraced in the arms of Jesus and loved ones on August 26th, 2021.
Graveside service will be at 10am on Monday, August 30, 2021, at Holly Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday, August 29, 2021, at Garrison Funeral Home.
She was born on May 13th, 1959, to Charles and Irene Lee and shortly after became a big sister to Jeff and Charlie.
Tammy moved to Garrison with her family around the age of 15 where she graduated high school in 1977.
Tammy became a mother to her beloved daughter Nikki on February 2nd, 1978. She mastered the roll of mom which was her favorite title until her grandson Cade came along. ‘MiMi’ quickly became her passion. She loved traveling to Cade’s baseball games and attending his school events. She loved to travel. Her most recent trip was to the Guadalupe River with her best friend, Danelle.
She moved to Longview/Hallsville area in 1996 to be closer to her dad. She flourished in this community. She enjoyed community outreach programs, pedicures, family dinners and mother-daughter time with Nikki. She loved the outdoors, fishing, and working in her yard and flower beds.
She loved her family and spending time with brothers, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. She was very active in her church, Trails End Cowboy Church of Harrison County, and enjoyed playing Mexican train with her church family.
We will miss her every day but have peace in knowing she is rejoicing in the arms of Jesus.
Tammy was preceded in death by her father, Charles Lee; mother, Eula Irene Lee; and husband, Jimmy Tatum.

Virgel E. Horn, Jr. (known to close family as Puggin) passed peacefully from this earth into the hands of the Lord on Thursday, August 26, 2021, in Center, Texas, surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 30, 2021, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Watson & Sons Chapel. Graveside service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Rest Haven in Rockwall.
Virgel was born October 26, 1942, in Center, Texas, to parents, Virgel E. Horn Sr. and Mildred M. (Andrews) Horn. He was raised on a farm in Nacogdoches County near the community of Melrose. He attended Melrose Elementary school and graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1961. He attended SFASU on a scholarship and graduated in 1965 with majors in physics and math. From there, he went to graduate school at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock, graduating in 1967 with a degree in Instrumental Science. (This was during the Vietnam War.) He joined the Air Force in 1967, going to OCS at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, becoming an Air Force intelligence officer specializing in battlefield intelligence. He spent the next 30 years on active and reserve duty, serving during Vietnam and Desert Storm, retiring in 1997 as Lt. Col.
After active duty, Virgel attended the University of Texas at Dallas, getting a Master’s degree in computer science. He became a software engineer, working approximately 35 years with Texas Instruments, E Systems, and Raytheon. Virgel had a top secret military clearance working on top secret military defense contracts.
In 1978, Virgel met and married the love of his life, Cheryl E. Wesson. The marriage produced one child, a son by the name of Jeffrey. Cheryl and Jeff both preceded Virgel in death. He enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife and son and also loved anything church related. Virgel was a member of New World United Methodist Church in Garland.

Aubrey "Kenneth" Norton, 68, of Timpson, Texas passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family August 24, 2021.
Funeral Services will be private, and the family plans to hold a private memorial.
He was born on December 4, 1952, in Center, Texas to A.P. Norton and Bessie Gann Norton. He grew up in the Patroon Community and graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1972. He joined the US Armed Forces after High School, spending nearly 12 years in the service. After his honorable discharge he returned to Patroon to be with family and operated Patroon Country Store.
He was dedicated to his family. His favorite hobby was gardening, especially flowers, but loved growing everything. He enjoyed the outdoors, feeding the birds, hunting, and fishing. He loved watching the rain and could be found on any rainy day sitting on his front porch enjoying nature and the life that God gave him. He will be greatly missed and will always live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Born October 28, 1969, in San Antonio, she is the daughter of Woodrow J. Schriewer and Rebecca McCord Schriewer. Her hobbies included cross stitching and arts and crafts. Dennis Wayne Gage was born in Shreveport, Louisiana May 8, 1970, to parents, Bill Gene & Aline Josephine (Ebarb) Gage. He had lived in Buffalo for the past six years, coming from San Augustine, Texas. Dennis worked as the Fleet Manager for R Construction and had quite a reputation for his enormous sense of humor on and off the job.
Dennis most enjoyed spending time with his wife, Blaire and their three children. He loved taking the family sightseeing various places allowing them all to experience the beauty that the world has to offer. He also enjoyed the occasional camping trip and hunting. Dennis was a hard worker and liked to fix things that were broken. His absence will be felt by everyone who knew him.
Dennis was preceded in death by both of his parents and an infant sister, Loretta Gage.

Billy Rayford Williams, 77, of Center, died Monday, August 23, 2021 in Memorial Hospital in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Graveside services will be held Friday, August 27, 2021 at 2 p.m. at the Sardis Cemetery with Rev. Luke Holmes officiating.
Mr. Williams was born June 20, 1944 in Shelby County, Texas to Rayford (Jake) Williams and Zera Opal Waldon Williams. Williams was a resident of Shelby County.
Following his graduation as Salutatorian from Center High School in 1962, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in History from Stephen F. Austin State University. He then went on to pursue his graduate work in History at the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University. Later, he earned his Master of Divinity at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX, after which he furthered his education at Baylor University.
Mr. Williams returned to Shelby County where he pastored local Baptist churches. For his family, he compiled genealogical histories, wrote humorous anecdotal accounts, narratives, and poetry, and he appreciated God’s creations such as the call of a whippoorwill or a hoot owl and the companionship of a faithful dog.
Mr. Williams is preceded in death by his parents, Rayford (Jake) Williams and Zera Opal Waldon Williams Brown, as well as his step-father, Jesse Waymon Brown.

Born October 21, 1946, in Logansport, Louisiana, she is the daughter of the late Robert Elmer Bates and Eula Merle Rhame Bates. She was a member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Joaquin and was recently honored for 50 consecutive years of faithful service.
Everything she did was motivated by her intense love for God and family. She consistently ignored her own wants and needs to help anyone in need, while never asking anything in return from anyone. She was a devoted wife and mother and adored her other family and friends. She always welcomed visitors.

Funeral will be a graveside service at Holly Springs Cemetery in Shelbyville, TX on Friday, August 27th at 2pm.
Born at home in “Possum Trot”, Shelbyville, Texas on November 20, 1943, she was the daughter of Eldredge Ramsey Permenter and Mildred Lorene Permenter. Peggy worked in finance for many years and later with an investigative skip trace company that she truly enjoyed and she was very good at her job. She made a lot of lifelong friends along the way.
She graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1961 and later went to Nacogdoches Business College. Peggy was a member of Central Baptist Church for many years.
She loved creating beautiful cross-stitch masterpieces and crocheting doilies and she was so good at it. We have many beautiful lasting samples of her handiwork to last us forever. She also was a talented cake decorator and a seamstress.
She was preceded in death by her Father, Eldredge Ramsey Permenter and, Mother, Mildred Lorene Permenter; her brother, Reverend C. W. “Calvin” Permenter; and infant sister, Jimmie Permenter.

Billie Frances Chance, 91, of Center, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2021, in Center.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 26, at First Baptist Church in Center with Bro. Gordon Vaughn and Bro. David Mathis officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Herman Cemetery in Center.
Born March 25, 1930, in Center, Frances is the daughter of Huey Lucas and Esther Beasley Lucas. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Center and enjoyed being a member and singing in the choir. She was also a member of the Center Garden Club.

Jerry Bob Nix, 80, of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2021 in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was born on May 28, 1941 in Long Branch, Texas, to the late Chester and Gladys (Chaney) Nix. Graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Shiloh Cemetery in Mt. Enterprise, Texas.
Jerry graduated high school in 1959 from Mt. Enterprise. He married Linda Kay Tyer of Timpson in 1962. After graduating high school, he attended Stephen F. Austin where he majored in accounting and received his BBA in 1964. Jerry was owner/partner of a CPA firm in Lufkin for several years before moving to Waco to attend Baylor Law School. After graduating law school in 1972, he moved to Dallas to practice law. He worked in Dallas into the late 70s before he and Kay decided to move to Timpson to help manage her parent’s lumber business. After he became owner and operator at Nix Forest Industries, Inc., the sawmill prospered even more under his guidance.
When he wasn’t working, Jerry enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends and brothers. He avidly collected antique cars; and enjoyed playing golf at Center County Club. He also owned and raised thoroughbred horses which raced at various tracks in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana for many years. Jerry had a quick wit and a big heart which was often put on display when people were around him. Additionally, he generously contributed to many organizations and individuals along the way and has truly left this world a better place.

Dennis Howard Giles, of Center, passed away Saturday night, August 21, 2021 at the Center Emergency Room.
Graveside service is at 11am Wednesday, August 25 at Friendship Bobo Cemetery, Tenaha, Texas with Pastor Jeremy Moore officiating. Visitation is from 1pm to 6pm Tuesday, August 24 at Community Funeral Home in Center.
Brother Dennis H. Giles was born August 1, 1945 to Mr. Abe Giles, Sr. and mother Jimmie Lee Giles. Both parents proceeded him to "Glory."
Dennis was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church, Timpson, Texas.
