Hazel Snider McKinzie, 89, of Center, passed away Monday, March 9, 2020, in Nacogdoches.

Mrs. McKinzie was born September 1, 1930, in Shelbyville, to George W. Snider and Ida Mae Latham Snider. Her hobbies included gardening, caring for hummingbirds, hunting, cooking, and most of all, spending time with family and friends. She was a member of Hillcrest Missionary Baptist Church in Center.

Charles Wayne Askins, 96, of Timpson, Texas passed away on March 7, 2020 in Garrison, Texas. Born November 22, 1923, in Timpson, Texas, to the late Henry “Pete” Dewey Askins and Alice Juanita (Franks) Askins. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at 2:00PM at Good Hope Baptist Church, FM 2667, Timpson, Texas, with Bro. Ronnie Sowell officiating. Interment will follow at Blair Cemetery, Timpson, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, March 9, 2020 at Taylor Funeral Home, Timpson, Texas.
Charles was born and raised in Shelby County. He attended Blair School. After graduation he served his great country during WWII in the United States Army. He returned to Timpson and married the love of his life, Doris Crump, on February 24, 1945. They welcomed two sons, Billy and Jerry. Sadly, Jerry passed away from cystic fibrosis at the young age of 3. Charles and Doris spent over 56 years together before her passing in 2001. Charles became a small cattle rancher at the age of only 6 years old. It was from that moment he became more and more involved in cattle ranching and farming. Charles could be found at the Center Livestock Auction every Wednesday at high noon. This was a weekly event he would not miss. Sunday afternoon you could find Charles in his favorite chair watching football games, especially when the Cowboy’s were playing. He also found great joy in riding the mule atv with his favorite dog, Bullet. Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He always made sure his family was taken care of. Charles was that person if you had met him, he left you with a smile. He was a dear friend to many in Shelby County and will be missed. He loved the Lord and was a founding member of Good Hope Baptist Church.

He loved the outdoors, including working in his garden, taking care of the yard, and hunting every opportunity he had. Of all the passions in his life, his family was the greatest of them all. His whole hearted love will continue on in the multiple generations he leaves behind.

Tommy Marion Guynes, 71, of Timpson, Texas passed away on March 2, 2020 in Timpson, Texas.Born February 7, 1949, in Silsbee, Texas, to the late Cloyce Elmer Guynes and Dollie (Helton) Guynes.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020 at 4:00PM at Taylor Funeral Home, Timpson, Texas, with Bro. Cecil Chessher and Bro. Bobby Waller officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Timpson, Texas.

Tommy was raised in Cleveland, Texas and the surrounding area. He graduated Cleveland High School. Later in life he made his home in Deep East Texas. Here he met his wife, Becky Mefford, and the two were married on December 23, 2013, spending over 6 years together. He loved the Lord, his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Tommy was an avid outdoorsman. You could find him fishing, hunting, doing woodwork, or just tinkering outside any day of the week. He loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Tommy enjoyed serving the Lord in many capacities and was a member of Called Out Church in Center, Texas.

Stanley Lee Pritchett, 86 of Timpson, passed away February 28, 2020.
Stanley Lee Pritchett built a life on entrepreneurial spirit powered by responsibility, industriousness, generosity of time and energy, and spiritual commitment. Among the youngest machinist apprentices and journeymen at Todd Shipyard, he continued as a machinist, tool and die maker, and manager at American Can Company. Those skills served his lifelong love of ranching and animal husbandry begun in his youth.
Stanley is pre-deceased by his parents, William Stanley Pritchett and Fannie Louise Hewitt Pritchett; his wife Lois Fayrene Gillis Stilley Pritchett and her son John Wayne Stilley; and Doris Ann Norris Pritchett.
He is survived by his sister, Shirley DeLozier; his and Doris Ann’s daughters: Vickie and husband Barry Wood, Chris Duhon, and Sondra and husband Mark Garrett; Lois’s daughter, Cynthia, and husband James Cope; in addition to thirteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and their spouses; and friends.
His funeral service will begin at Cason Monk-Metcalf in Nacogdoches at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2020, with Brother Levi Cohorst officiating. Visitation available from noon until 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Please consider donations to American Cancer Society.

Elma Ree Singleton Suell, 75, passed away February 22, 2020. She was born to the proud parents of the late Alvord (Jack) and Martha Singleton. She was born in Center, Texas and attended C.H. Daniels High School in Center, Texas.
Elma worked at Tyson for 44 years and retired in 2007.

Mr. Ellis Van Woods of Broaddus, Texas, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at his residence at the age of 92.
Mr. Woods, known as "E.V." or "Stubby," was born June 18, 1927, in Monroe, Louisiana, to parents Van Woods and Nettie Mae (Thompson) Woods. He had been a longtime resident of Houston, Texas, before moving to the Broaddus area several years ago. He was a master carpenter in home building construction and served his country with the U.S. Marine Corps. "Bro. Stubby" was a dedicated member of Trinity Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Lorane (Sisson) Woods, in 2005; daughter, Judy Lee, in 2014; as well has his parents and siblings.

Jerry G. Gamble, 85, entered into rest on February 24, 2020 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Jerry was born on March 19, 1934 in Mansfield, Louisiana to Albert and Ima Horn Gamble.
Funeral services honoring the life of Gamble will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2020 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield, Louisiana with Bro. Mike Scott officiating. Interment will follow at Grand Cane Cemetery. A visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ima Horn Gamble; brothers, Dr. Hollis Gamble and Clarence Gamble, and his brother-in-law, Robert Revis.

Lyndell Griffin, 90, of Tenaha, Texas, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Marian Place in Carthage, Texas. She was born October 5, 1929 in Tenaha, Shelby County, Texas to Duncan Hairgrove and Essie Mitchell Hairgrove. Mrs. Griffin was a faithful and lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Tenaha, Texas. She graduated from Tenaha High School and continued her education in office management in Lufkin, Texas.
Lyndell married Bill F. Griffin, Jr. in 1950. When Bill opened his law practice in Center, she became his secretary and office manager and continued to do so for over 50 years until they retired.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2020, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center, Texas. Funeral services will follow visitation at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Watson & Sons Funeral Home with Pastor Karen Jones officiating. Interment will follow at the Old Union Cemetery in Tenaha, Texas.

Jimmy Earl Watts transitioned from his earthly life to his heavenly home on February 18, 2020 at the age of 83.
He spent his final moments at home surrounded by his loved ones. Jim was born on November 21, 1936 in San Augustine, Texas to Otis Dee and Willie Maw Watts. He spent much of his childhood in San Augustine, and eventually met and married the late Mary Delores Cole Watts.
To this union, 6 children were born. The couple and their children went on to call Nacogdoches home, and they established roots there. On December 16, 2018 at the age of 82, he was baptized at Nacogdoches Bible Fellowship, where he held membership.
He is preceded in death by both his parents: Otis “Paw Dee” and Willie Mae “Mama Coonie” Watts; his wife: Mary D. Cole Watts; brothers and sisters: Arthur “Bud” Watts, Willie Ed Watts, Spencer Watts, Otis Watts, James Watts, M.T. “Buddy” Watts, Lou Ethel “Gugga” Sterns, Ever Lee Brooks, and Alice Watts; his son and daughter: Freddy Joe Watts and Rostina Watts Menefee; grandchildren: Sharonda Crockett and Centric Watts; great-grandchildren: TiAsia Watts and Kya Watts; and two “brothers”; A.C. “Pete” Brooks and Billy Pleasant.

Dana (Williams) Judson, 66, of Pflugerville, Texas, passed away on February 12, 2020, from pancreatic cancer.
She was born to Sallie Adena Youngblood and Norman Williams on November 23, 1953, in Center, Texas. She graduated as Valedictorian from Center High School in 1972, and went on to receive her BA in Accounting and Masters in Business Administration (Magna Cum Laude) from Stephen F. Austin State University. She worked for Hallmark Cards for 32 years, before retiring to the Austin, Texas, area in 2005. She worked as an administrative assistant for the University of Texas Nuclear Engineering Teaching Lab until her second retirement in 2018.
Dana loved to travel, try new restaurants, take long strolls, but she mostly delighted in spending time with her family. She patronized charities and volunteered with community groups whose causes she was passionate about. She left the family she loved with the lessons of finding the humor in every situation, hard work, reading and learning, not taking yourself or others too seriously, having integrity, and the importance of taking time to just be with each other, and love and care for each other. She was the best of women.
She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Norma Lee Matzenbacher.

Gordon “Peanut” Barrett, 68, of Garrison, Texas passed away on February 18, 2020 in Tyler, Texas. Born August 15, 1951, in Garrison, Texas, to the late Gordon “Si” Barrett and Renney Clotte (Frederick) Barrett. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at 3:30PM at Taylor Funeral Home, Timpson, Texas, with Bishop Neal Cox officiating.
Visitation will be held prior to the service on February 20, 2020 beginning at 2:00 PM at Taylor Funeral Home, Timpson, Texas.
Peanut was raised in Garrison, Texas. He attended Garrison and Timpson Schools. Shortly thereafter, Peanut met Gina at a local business in Garrison, The Bulldog Den. Gina was sitting on the hood of a car waiting for her sister Teresa to come out, Peanut asked her for a kiss and the answer was no! Many times after that he received the same answer no. Finally he asked her for a date, when he went to pick her up at her house for the date and knocked on the door Gina’s mom came to the door and Peanut asked for Blondie, see he didn’t know her real name because the young folks in Garrison had nicknamed her Blondie. They courted for a few months, Gina (Blondie) gave into his kiss, and the two joined together in marriage on May 23, 1975. They have spent almost 45 years together, making many memories over these years. Peanut worked as a roofer, and journeyman for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman. Peanut enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved his family, especially his nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Although Peanut and Gina never had children, the love they shared with their nieces and nephews, was just like if they were their own.They were just like his own children.
Peanut loved to take his neice and nephews fishing, he had a favorite story he would tell about taking Jesse, Amber, Wesley, Brian, and Blake trotline fishing, they had all gone out in the boat to check the lines in Lake Murvaul, he was telling the kids there was an alligator in Murvaul, when they got back to the dock and stopped the boat Peanut grabbed Wesley up and pitched him in the lake saying” there’s that alligator” once the kids realized there wasn’t an alligator they asked him if they could get in the water too, being the cool fun Uncle that he was he said “jump in” and they all jumped into the lake.
Sometimes he would take the kids to the Sabine River and would let them put out throwlines, he would let them pick there on spots for a line and then when they went back to check their lines it would turn into a compition to see who had the biggest fish, on one trip everyone had got a fish but Brian, they got to Brians last line and Peanut would grab hold of the line to see if it would jurk in his hand, he says to Brian “man we have Jaws on here” when they got the fish up close to the boat, he let Brian help dip it up with the dip net since that was what he would let all of them do with their fish, this fish was a big one and with Peanut's help they got that big fish in the boat but it flopped and made the handle of the dip net bounce up and it hit Brian in the mouth. Brian started to cry and Peanut asked him “ are you OK” Brian said “ Yes I Am Just So Happy” because his fish was the biggest one caught that day.
Another thing Peanut would do with the kids was take them joy riding on the country backroads. When the kids wanted to drive and they were to small to reach the petals he would let them sit on his lap and they would steer. There was a favorite road that the kids loved to go on that they had named Thrill Hill. Peanut would let them get into the bed of his pickup and they would all laydown and when Peanut would drive fast over the hills it would feel like they were riding on a rollercoster.
Peanut and Gina spent every minute together, they would ride the backroads together listening to the Scriptures, and listerning for the call of the Whipoorwills and frogs singing in the night.
He loved Family gatherings would great food and sitting to visit or play a game of chickenfoot or cornhole, he really enjoyed time spent at the lake or deer camp.
Peanut had a great love for a good dog, he had old Sheba his coonhound and would take her out on coon hunts with his friends, he also loved the small dogs, like his dog Maggie.
Most of all he loved God the Father and Jesus Christ, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour. Peanut is a member of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints.
